- Jennifer Chandler Memphis Commercial Appeal USA TODAY NETWORK – TENNESSEE

The first Memphis Crumbl Cookies opened Thursday. The new 1,500square-foot bakery is at 711 S. Mendenhall Road.

The Utah-based chain is known for its from-scratch, freshly baked overthe-top cookies. Dessert-inspired flavors like Snickerdoodle Cupcake, Brownie Sundae and Caramel Popcorn are original cookies that come served warm or chilled in the company’s signature pink box. Each cookie is huge — about 41⁄2 inches wide.

Each week, the menu rotates to give you four different specialty flavors to enjoy. The cookie menu for the week is announced every Sunday. Fans of a classic cookie will be glad to hear that their famous Milk Chocolate Chip (Crumbl Cookies’ original cookie) and chilled Sugar cookies are always available.

Inside every Crumbl Cookies store, staff members mix, bake and prepare the cookies fresh in an open kitchen for all to see.

“We are making cookies like you do at home,” co-owner Sam Hiatt said. “These are cookies like they should be made — crispy on the edges and gooey on the inside.”

Hiatt, along with partners David Watson, Greg Peterson and Roger Hiatt, own the rights to the Memphis market. A second Crumbl Cookies location will open in Olive Branch in October, and a

third location in Germantown in the Saddle Creek shopping center is set to open by December. The partners are currently looking for a location for a fourth bakery.

Crumbl Cookies started as a deliver company and continues that tradition at all its stores. They offer delivery within a 10-mile radius of the bakery.

There is no seating at the Mendenhall location; all orders are to-go. Online ordering and curbside pickup are available.

Since opening its doors three years ago, Crumbl Cookies has expanded to more than 200 bakeries in 32 states, making it the fastest-growing cookie company in the nation.

Hiatt said working with Crumbl Cookies is a rewarding experience. “A lot of people are buying cookies for someone else. There is a happiness to knowing someone is buying something to make someone’s day. It feels good.”
