MEMPHIS - John Palmer Cox, age 80, peacefully passed from life to his eternal home on July 20, 2021. He is survived by his loving family – son, John Eric Cox; stepsons, Jack Collins (Moira Horton) and Neal Collins; and stepdaught­er, Pamala Collins (Steve Morrison); three grandchild­ren, Colin Morrison, Caitlin Morrison, and Nathan Collins; and two great-granddaugh­ters, Penelope and Isabel Heaton; Sisters, Dorothy Rutherford (Tommy); Lisa (Jimmy) Thomas; Judy Baird; niece, Emily (John) Greer, and nephews, Christophe­r and Jacob Thomas, and extended family and friends.

He is predecease­d by his loving wife, Bonnie, of 46 years; parents, Alex Woodrow Cox and Hazel Crawford Cox, and an infant brother.

He was born in Brownfield, MS, was a graduate of Tech High School, and attended Memphis State University and Memphis College of Art before serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed a career in inside sales at Plastico/ Indelco for 36 years and part-time employment at Yorkshire Launderett­e for 25+ years.

He enjoyed art, loved animals, was an avid reader/learner, enjoyed a good round of golf or a game of pool with friends, excelled at crossword puzzles, and avidly followed his favorite teams, the University of Memphis, the Grizzlies, and the Boston Celtics.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 26 from 1:00-2:00pm with the service to follow immediatel­y.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to one of his favorite charities: John 3:16 Ministries, House of Mews, or St. Jude. Special thanks is extended to Bright Glade and Baptist Trinity Hospice who cared for him in his final days. Above all, thanks is given to our Heavenly Father from whom he drew comfort and strength through the Scriptures during his hard battle with cancer.
