Degeneres sets premiere date for final season of talk show
Ellen Degeneres is getting ready to say goodbye. The 19th and final season of “Ellen” will premiere on Sept. 13, the show announced Monday.
“With unparalleled celebrity interviews, musical performances, topical stories, extraordinary human-interest guests, and sought-after viral sensations worldwide, Degeneres will continue to deliver uplifting, inspiring, and hilarious experiences to viewers throughout her final season,” the show said in a statement.
Degeneres, 63, announced in May that she’d be wrapping the show after the upcoming season.
Despite the suspicious timing, Degeneres claimed the allegations from current and former employees of behind-the-scenes bullying, sexual harassment and mistreatment had nothing to do with her decision.
Durst takes stand at his trial, denies killing best friend
Robert Durst took the stand at his California murder trial Monday and immediately denied killing his best friend, who prosecutors say was about to reveal to investigators his involvement in the 1982 disappearance of his wife.
Susan Berman was shot in the back of the head and killed in 2000 in her Los Angeles home. She had been Durst’s best friend for decades and acted as his de facto spokesman after the disappearance of his wife, Kathie, who was later declared dead, though no body was found.
Durst was arrested on a warrant in Berman’s killing in New Orleans in 2015 on the eve of the airing of the final episode of “The Jinx,” the HBO documentary series about him in which Durst made several seemingly damning statements.
Prosecutors have been allowed to present evidence that Durst killed his wife. He has never been charged in connection with her disappearance, and has denied having anything to do with it.
The questioning Monday had not yet addressed Kathie Durst’s disappearance or the details of Berman’s death when court ended for the day. Durst is set return to the stand on Wednesday.
Masterson subpoenas on Remini show and LAPD blasted by judge
A judge blasted Danny Masterson’s defense lawyers in his rape case Monday, shooting down subpoenas for everything from outtakes from Leah Remini’s anti-scientology TV show to Los Angeles police files involving Scientology boss David Miscavige.
Judge Charlaine Olmedo minced no words as she cast Masterson’s subpoena for LAPD records related to Miscavige and his wife, Shelly Miscavige, “an overt attempt to obtain privileged information in LAPD files.”
Regarding Remini, the actress who split with Scientology in 2013 and is now its most vocal critic, Olmedo said the celebrity “may have had an interest” in the criminal case against Masterson, but her show “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath” is still protected.
Olmedo called the subpoena on the show’s producers “stunningly overbroad” and “unduly burdensome.”
Masterson, best known for his role on the hit sitcom “That ’70s Show,” is now preparing for trial on charges he raped three women at his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003.
