R.T. “Arte” Wiggins

MEMPHIS - R.T. “Arte” Wiggins of Memphis, TN went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at the age of 97. After several months of age-related illnesses, R.T. transition­ed peacefully in his sleep at his residence. R.T was born on June 18, 1924, to father Peter Monroe Wiggins and mother Mary Clara Syms-wiggins. The youngest of 12 children, R.T grew up in Quitman county in Crenshaw, MS. From 1942 to 1949, R.T. served in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy (USS Killen DD593). After his time in the services, he returned home and married the love of his life, Dorothy Louise Pullins. Their union was blessed with 10 children. They later moved to to Memphis, TN. He served as Asst. Pastor to the late Bishop Samuel Lowe at Gospel Temple COGIC. Later he started his own church, Healing Temple COGIC. R.T. Wiggins was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings: Also, preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise and his son, Marvin. His surviving children are: Esta Seals (Willie), Phoebe Smith, Elaine Dupree of Douglasvil­le, GA, Jethro Wiggins (Pok Sun) of Stockbridg­e, GA, Charles Wiggins of Rex, GA, Minnie Robinson , Katrice Lain (Terry) of New Orleans, LA, Katrina Shields (Ricky) and Cynthia Wiggins-reynolds; He also leaves 16 grandchild­ren and a host of great-grandchild­ren, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed.
