Tim Slocum named Methodist University Hospital president

Methodist University Hospital has a new president.

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has named Tim A. Slocum president of the 617-hospital, Methodist's flagship location. Slocum was named chief operating officer of the hospital in 2019 and was named interim president in December.

Michael Ugwueke, president and CEO for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, said Slocum had dedicated his two-decade career to improving patient outcomes and making healthcare more accessible.

“He has provided exceptiona­l operationa­l and strategic leadership to enhance our ability to provide the highest quality and safest care for our patients,” Ugwueke said in a statement.

Kathleen Forbes, executive vice president of the academic group for the hospital system said Slocum has led the hospital's pandemic response efforts and ensured hospital employees have the resources to remain safe and keep up a high level of care.

“In his time as interim leader, he has truly met each moment with determinat­ion, optimism and resolve to address any challenge presented,” Forbes said.

Methodist University Hospital is one of two teaching hospitals within the system, the other being Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

Before joining the Methodist system, Slocum spent 16 years with Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia, serving as vice president for the system's support services.

He also served as assistant vice president of the system's 637-bed tertiary teaching hospital.
