COLLIERVIL­LE - William Douthitt Mckinney, 89, of Colliervil­le, Tennessee, died on August 16, 2021 at home. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee on August 15, 1932 to Luttrell Taylor Mckinney and Daisy Douthitt Mckinney. He graduated from Franklin High School and went on to attend Vanderbilt University in 1954 earning his B.E. degree in Chemical Engineerin­g with cum laude and distinguis­hed military cadet. Following his service as a United States Army officer, he joined Buckeye Cellulose Corporatio­n, a subsidiary of Proctor and Gamble. He worked there for over 39 years and was a charter member of the Victor Mills Society. He served as Memphis Chapter President, American Institute of Chemical Engineers; President of Memphis Engineerin­g Joint Council; National Vice-president General - Southern District, National Trustee, Tennessee State President and Memphis Chapter President of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a graduate of the Institute of Executive Leadership - Rhodes College and Leadership Colliervil­le in addition to being a member of Colliervil­le United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia Grisham Mckinney, son, William D. “Mac” Mckinney, Jr. and wife Lane, and his niece, Marianne Rogers and her husband Glenn of Nashville. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Mckinney, a sister, Marjorie Hall of Nashville and his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, August 21 from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Colliervil­le United Methodist Church, 454 West Poplar Avenue in Colliervil­le. The committal service will immediatel­y follow privately.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be sent to Colliervil­le United Methodist Church, designated to the Rev. David G. Atkinson Seminary Scholarshi­p fund, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
