Netscape Communications Corp. wants the Justice Department to investigate whether Microsoft Corp. is violating an agreement with the government by trying to push out Internet software competitors. In a letter to antitrust regulators, Netscape detailed a litany of potential violations by Microsoft to its 1994 agreement. The government has not formally responded to the Aug. 12 letter, which was provided to news organizations Tuesday by Netscape. Netscape said Microsoft is using its dominance in personal computer operating systems to influence computer makers, Internet service companies and others into giving Microsoft Internet software greater prominence over competitors like Netscape.

Willie Watson of Clearbrook Street recorded consecutive eagles at the Fox Meadows golf course, scoring on the par-5 14th hole and the par-four 15th. Harold Stephens, Alan Yancey and Ron Reed were Watson’s playing partners.

Buck Miller pitched the Buckeye Cotton Oil Mill softball team to the district championship last night, defeating Nat Buring 5-2 at the Fairgrounds. Miller limited the Nat Buring boys to a single safety as his teammates pounded Ted Dlugach to keep their tournament slate clean. Both teams leave Thursday morning for Chattanooga and the state tourney.

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Major M. Hamberlin, a veteran planter of Deer Creek, is in the city tonight and reports the fields white with cotton. He can see no reason why the crop in that section should not be all gathered by Oct. 15. Maj. Hamberlin has just returned from the drouth-stricken region of North Louisiana, the situation of which he declares is deplorable.
