Patricia “Patty” Schneider Mcmanus

-

MEMPHIS - The world lost a beautiful, radiant light as Patricia “Patty” Schneider Mcmanus transitioned from this world to the next on August 19,

2021 at the age of 68, surrounded by family and a great deal of love. Without question, Heaven is now more joyful, a little noisier, better decorated and certainly more stylish.

Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., Patty was the daughter of Charles and Laura Schneider – proudly sharing a birthday with Davy Crockett. She joined her older sister – a previously satisfied and happy only child

– in a family that grew to include another sister, a younger brother and an assortment of rescued and loyal furry friends.

She was the child most likely to set a record, to identify the edge of every rule, to accidentally fall into every body of water within a hundred yards, and to fill any room with laughter and outrageous tales. Those who know her from Middle Tennessee State University and Chi Omega will remember her as the ever-luminescent friend who shined brightest when delivering a punch line, something she did better than just about anyone else.

While Patty spent the last years of her life in Memphis, Tenn., she built much of her adult life and her career in Annapolis, Maryland. Patty was a caring and supportive mother, instilling her values, wisdom, humor and love of travel with her son. She could be seen on the sidelines of many high school football games proudly holding the down marker for the Severn Admirals.

From technology sales and real estate to her role as a financial advisor, Patty excelled in everything she did – a trait that was often recognized by organizations that benefited from her quick wit and study. She spent more than 25 years in the securities industry, working for RBC Wealth Management and with the former Baltimore-based investment firm of Alex Brown.

In addition to her professional accolades, Patty also served on the Boards of Directors of the Severn School, Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation, YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County and Annapolis Life Care.

And while proud of her career as a successful business woman, Patty was also known for her endless and tireless philanthropic work. Quick to roll up her sleeves and do the hard work – and not just write a check – during her 20 years working with the YWCA of Anne Arundel County, she helped to establish the first and only Domestic Violence Safe House in the area. Patty was honored by the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County as the Philanthropist of the Year in 2011. Those who worked alongside her in these efforts remember her humility – seldom seeking the recognition.

Those who know her best will remember her as an over-achieving, sports-loving, trivia-winning, chic shoe wearing, joyfully dancing, makeyou-laugh-till-your-belly-hurts entertaining mom, Gigi, sister, aunt and friend. And while our world is a little darker without her light, we know she is rejoicing in Heaven with a body that is healed and whole.

She is survived by her loving son, Todd Mcmanus, her daughter-in-law, Kathryn, and two granddaughters, Maddy and Marin, who were her greatest joy and brightest lights in her life. Patty is also survived by her beloved siblings Sherrie Ledford, Susan Stephenson (Tom) and Chuck Schneider, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and devoted caregivers, who love and miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved brother-in-law, Larry Ledford.

Memorials can be made in honor of Patty’s life to YWCA of Anne Arundel County or the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis. The family will hold a private celebration of life in the coming weeks.
