Memphis area high school football top performers for Week 1
The 2021 High School football season is officially underway. Here's the Memphis area Top Performers from Week 1:
OFFENSE
John Davis, Arlington: Davis had 16 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown in a 39-10 loss to MUS.
JD Sherrod, Briarcrest: Sherrod ran for 89 yards and accounted for three touchdowns (two rushing and one passing) in a 58-0 victory over Booker T. Washington.
Ahmad Miller, Briarcrest: Miller had six carries for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Derrick Carroll, Briarcrest: Carroll scored two rushing touchdowns.
Braxton Sharp, Brighton: Sharp had multiple touchdowns in a 38-0 win against St. Benedict.
Houston Wilhelm, Collierville: Wilhelm accounted for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in a 61-0 victory over Raleigh-egypt.
Jamarion Dowell, Covington: Dowell had 23 carries for 202 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-8 win against Munford.
Jalen Fayne, Covington: Fayne had 10 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown vs. Munford.
David Calderon, FACS: Calderon ran for 58 yards and a touchdown in a 30-10 loss to Clarksville Academy.
Tyler Woodard, Freedom Prep: Woodard had 71 yards and three receiving touchdowns in a 50-0 victory over Manassas.
Jeremiah Salem, Houston: Salem was 9-for-13 passing with four touchdowns in a 49-14 win against Ridgeway.
Will Stegall, Houston: Stegall had five catches for 110 yards and three touchdowns.
Ben Stegall, Houston: Stegall scored two touchdowns (one rushing and one receiving).
Auvic White, Munford: White had 23 carries for 79 yards in a 41-8 loss to Covington.
George Hamsley, MUS: Hamsley was 12-of-21 passing for 201 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-10 victory over Arlington.
Mac Owen, MUS: Owen had five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Makhi Shaw, MUS: Shaw had 85 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Tevin Carter, PURE: Carter threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns in a
22-20 overtime loss at Bartlett.
Tyler Wooten, Ridgeway: Wooten had five catches for 109 yards in a 49-14 loss to Houston.
Dontez Mckinley, Trezevant: Mckinley was 7-for-11 passing for 119 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-14 victory over Hillcrest.
DEFENSE
Carter Wood, Arlington: Wood had five solo tackles and four assists in a 39-10 loss to MUS.
Jackson Hair, Arlington: Hair had four solo tackles and four assists.
Jordan Batts and Jerren White, Arlington: Batts and White combined for six solo tackles and nine assists.
Marco Tyson, Bartlett: Tyson had two interceptions and returned one 48 yards for a touchdown.
Tony Cox, Bartlett: Cox had two solo tackles and five assists.
Harrison Reaves, Bartlett: Reaves had three solo tackles (one TFL), three assists and a sack.
Cooper Thompson, Briarcrest: Thompson returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown.
Donovan Mathena and Myles Wesley, Collierville: Mathena and Wesley had a fumble return and an interception return, respectively, for touchdowns.
Ethan Browder and Connell Fitzgerald, FACS: Browder and Fitzgerald combined for 10 tackles and six assists in a 30-10 loss to Clarksville Academy.
LJ Higginbottom, Freedom Prep: Higginbottom had six tackles (two TFL), a fumble recovery and a touchdown in a 50-0 win against Manassas.
Keyon Brown, Trezevant: Brown had 13 solo tackles in a 20-14 victory over Hillcrest. Offensively, he scored two touchdowns.
Malik Williams, Trezevant: Williams had eight tackles, to go along with 75 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.
Xavier Mayo, Trezevant: Williams had eight tackles and a 59-yard interception return.
