-

GERMANTOWN - Joseph “Joe” Michael Cooper, 82 , of Germantown TN, went peacefully to his Eternal home with our Lord and Savior on August 11, 2021.

Joe was born in Morganton, NC on April 4, 1939. Joe was an immensely proud graduate of Southside High School in 1957. He was an all star athlete playing football, baseball, basketball, and track thus earning him “Most Athletic” his senior year. He loved being a part of the Southside Scrappers and stayed very active with his classmates and planning many of the class reunions. At the young age of 30, Joe started his own business, Joe Cooper Auto Sales. Over the years, he grew the business and made a name for himself in the Memphis automobile industry. This business has remained strong and successful for the past 52 years which is a testament to Joe’s hard work ethic and perseverance. He was also an author writing his autobiography, “Jesus, My Hero.” Joe enjoyed writing this book as it was a tribute to him turning his life over to Jesus. After receiving a heart transplant in 2004, his solid faith grew even stronger. Joe vowed to commit and surrender his new heart to the Lord’s service and was so grateful for this gift. He was known for his inspirational devotionals, witnessing to all who would listen about the Lord, and sharing his testimony. Joe loved the Germantown High School Red Devils sports team and remained supportive for many years. He was a former board member at the Calvary Rescue Mission and a devoted member of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Joe married his soulmate, Patrica Corzine Weeks, on September 26, 1982. Just 108 days ago, Patricia unexpectedly passed away. She was waiting for him at Heaven’s gate when Jesus called him home, they are now whole and together forever. His devotion was being a Husband, Dad, and Grandfather and so prideful of his family cherishing every moment spent together. Joe was always there to be the wind beneath our wings for his family and many friends during the best and hardest times of life. A true servant’s heart who would rather give than receive, he impacted so many people through out his time here on earth. Joe had such appreciation for life and always made sure ALL knew how much he loved them.

Joe was also preceded in death by his parents Harold and Marguerite Cooper and infant son John Ryan. He is survived by his sister Susan Wilson (bob), children Michael Cooper, Brian Cooper, Deanie Cooper, Darren Weeks, and Halle Weeks Shearin (Mike), and cherished granddaughters Taylor Cooper and Sadie Shearin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Calvary Rescue Mission or Palmer Home for Children.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 18 at Faith Presbyterian Church (8816 Poplar Pike, germantown) with Pastor Greg Darden officiating.

A reception with Joe’s family will follow the service at the church.

The family of Joseph Cooper wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the many friends and extended family who have been there for us during our time of grief.
