Stewart Thomas Peters, born in Memphis, TN on October 30th, 1954, to Jean Thomas Peters and Robert Lee Peters, died September 5th, 2021. Tommy was a true Memphis man. He loved his city and his family and honored both in all that he did. Tommy was a proud alumnus of Memphis University School and University of Mississippi. He loved playing basketball for his uncle, Jerry Peters, while at MUS. He served as President of the Business School at Ole Miss and was Treasurer of Phi Delta Theta. The friendships he made at MUS and Ole Miss have lasted a lifetime. Tommy was loyal, determined, kind and a jokester. Following graduation at Ole Miss, he began a family and a career as an accountant. Tommy had many ventures, but he followed his heart and his entrepreneurial spirit which led him to opening B.B. King’s Blues Club in 1991. With the first neon sign on Beale Street, Tommy truly revitalized downtown and made it what it is today. His passion for food, live music, and bringing people together led him to open many more restaurants and concepts in various locations. He brought Memphis heart and soul to Nashville, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Montgomery, Orlando, West Palm Beach, and the Atlantic Ocean. His restaurants included B.B. King’s Blues Club, Itta Bena, Lafayette’s Music Room, Moondance, Lucille’s, The Wharf and Lizzie’s Memphis-style Barbeque. Tommy loved his three daughters dearly. His eldest daughter, Sara Fay Egan, shares a birthday with Tommy and shares his entrepreneurship, work ethic and creativity. His middle daughter, Bethany Stooksberry, shares his love of music, creative spirit, and fun nature. His youngest daughter, Grace Peters, shares his kind and humble heart and love for helping others. His daughters carry a piece of him with them and intend to honor and carry on his legacy. Tommy leaves behind his wife Elizabeth Peters, three daughters, Sara Fay Egan, Bethany Stooksberry and Grace Peters, his two sisters, Karen Hoff and Sally Peters, grandchildren Grace Egan and Walker Egan.
