MEMPHIS - Sherrye Elizabeth Crawford of Memphis went to be with her Lord and Savior October 1, 2021. She was born August 5, 1951 in Memphis, TN to the late Charles Garvin and Sarah Elizabeth Stark Crawford.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church for 43 years. She taught Sunday school, Awana and Master Club children’s leader, and was a nursery volunteer as well as many other numerous contributi­ons during her years as a faithful member.

Her smile was infectious and made strangers and all others feel welcome and at home.

Sherrye is preceded in death by her parents and brother Timothy Stark Crawford. She is survived by her sister Janice Crawford Ferwerda of Boulder, Colorado, brother Charles “Buddy” Garvin Crawford Jr. and wife Rachel of Flippin, Arkansas, two half sisters, Judy Poarch of Terrell, Texas and Margaret Murray, of Huntsville, Alabama and her maternal aunt and uncle of Brownsvill­e, Tennessee, Billy & Helen Stark as well as 7 nieces and 2 nephews.

Sherrye attended Oakhaven High School and graduated from Bob Jones University in 1976 with a desire to teach in a Bible believing Christian school. She achieved her goal and began teaching at Thrifthave­n Baptist Academy followed by Central Baptist School in 1978 as an elementary teacher for 10 years and teaching math, US history, geography and Bible at the high school level for an additional 11 years. Sherrye retired from teaching to be a full time caregiver for her mother for two years. After her mother’s passing she worked at Methodist Healthcare Federal Credit Union for many years, but her heart lead her back to Christian school teaching as a substitute for Memphis area schools. Her current full time employment was at The Joint Chiropract­or Services.

Sherrye had a great affection of Southern Gospel music and a deep-seated love of the old time hymns. She knew the lyrics to every hymn in the hymnal. Besides her great love and dedication to her church, family and friends Sherrye was a true patriot. She dedicated countless resources to educating others on liberty through organizati­ons Take Back Tennessee and Campaign for Liberty.

The Memorial Service will be Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church, 5470 Raleigh Lagrange Rd., Memphis, TN with Pastor Chris Tomlin officiatin­g. The service will be held outside. The memorial will be followed by a private graveside service.
