Meet the Mr. and Miss Basketball finalists

- Tom Kreager

The TSSAA released its Mr. and Miss Basketball finalists for the 2021-22 season Thursday.

Awards will be given in all six classifications in boys and girls at 5 p.m. March 14 at Middle Tennessee State's Murphy Center on the eve of the TSSAA Division I boys basketball state tournament.

The event will be free and open to the public. A statewide committee of sportswriters selected the finalists and winners based on the 2021-22 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration.

High school basketball coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists. Four of the 2021 winners are finalists for the 2022 award. In girls, Ensworth's Jaloni Cambridge, a sophomore, won the Division II-AA award a year ago and is a finalist this year. Loretto senior Karly Weathers, an Alabama signee, won the Class A Miss Basketball in 2021, but is a finalist for the Class 2A award in 2022 after a fourth classification was added to Division I this season.

Tennessee signee B.J. Edwards, a Knoxville Catholic senior, can repeat as the DII-AA Mr. Basketball winner after being a finalist this year and Clay County's Grant Strong, a Tennessee Tech signee, will have an opportunity to repeat in 1A after winning the honor a year ago.

This is the 37th year the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards have been presented to Tennessee's best high school basketball players. Here are the finalists:
