Tony Harris got another big trophy to lug around on Tuesday, but it was one he said he’d trade for a chance to replay Monday night’s sub-state loss to Bolton. Harris, an East High senior guard, was named Tennessee’s Class AAA Mr. Basketball in a ceremony at the Opryland Hotel, joining a list of Shelby-metro Mr. Basketballs that includes the names Penny Hardaway (1990, Treadwell High) and Todd Day (1988, Hamilton). Harris is the first East player to receive the award, which was established by the TSSAA in 1986. He is just the seventh Shelby-metro player to be named Mr. Basketball in any classification. Harris said his elbows were still sore and swollen from a nasty fall he took in East’s 55-51 upset loss to Bolton in Monday’s sub-state.
