OLIVE BRANCH - Dorothy (“Dot”) Cheshier, 89, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, took her last breath and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of March 4, 2022. Her one true love and husband of 60 years, Joe, was faithfully by her side. Dot was born on September 22, 1932 to Melvin and Annie May Sholar in Mayfield, Kentucky. After graduating from high school, Dot moved to Memphis and began pursuing a career in nursing. She graduated with honors from the Memphis Baptist School of Nursing in 1953. Dot passionately served as a nurse for a short time in Chicago, Illinois and Wheeling, West Virginia then returned to Memphis and worked at the VA hospital for 37 years and at Baptist East Memphis Hospital for 10 years before retiring in 2000. In June of 1961, Dot and Joe met at church and married on November 25, 1961. They had two sons, Gregg and Derek, whom they raised in the Memphis area. Dot enjoyed ceramics, fishing, exercising, University of Memphis basketball, and repeatedly encouraging Joe throughout the years to “just go ahead and buy that motorcycle”. Through her 89+ years, Dot survived many personal tragedies and illnesses with grace and strength that can only come from Christ Jesus. Joe has always said that he never heard her complain... not even once. She was a tough strong woman; perhaps that came from growing up with six brothers - and maybe her red hair. Dot became a faithful follower of Jesus Christ at a young age. His presence in her life was evident through her love for others, including her family, friends, and her thousands of patients during her almost 50 years as a nurse. Dot was a member of the Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Byhalia, MS, and when her health no longer allowed her to attend services, she frequently enjoyed online worship and visits from her beloved Brother Oscar. Dot is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Calvin, Nathan, Joe, Ray, Henry and Larry. Left to celebrate and remember Dot is her devoted husband, Joe, of Olive Branch, MS; their sons, Gregg (Shannon) of Dallas, TX and Derek (Lori) of Hernando, MS; five grandchildren, Brandon Russell of Collierville, TN, Leanna (Jason) Merrill of Byhalia, MS, Blake (Brooke) Cheshier of Atoka, TN, Paige Cheshier of Johns Creek, GA, and Sarah Hager of Pensacola, FL; four great-grandchildren Nate, Piper, Jaxon and Quinley; sister, Shirley (Clint) Hardin of Germantown, TN; and many nieces and nephews. Services for Dot will be lead by Brother Oscar Geeslin and are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Visitation will be held immediately preceding the services beginning at noon and a reception for family and friends will be held at the funeral home immediately following the service. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. [2 Timothy 4:7 - 4:8]
