WACO, TX - Frederick Andrew Daltroff (Andy), 67, died in Waco, TX, on Thursday, March 31, from a massive coronary.

A native Memphian, Andy made lifelong friends in his old East Memphis neighborhood, at Mrs. Roulhac’s Kindergarten, Christ Methodist Day School. Shady Grove Elementary, and White Station Junior and Senior High. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity at the University of Mississippi and became a full-time cotton shipper following his father’s sudden death in 1974. Andy went on to become one of the most successful young cotton men in the industry - named in 1974 as the youngest member ever elected to the Memphis Cotton Exchange.

He married Jan Waugh and they relocated to Lubbock, TX, where he was a member of the Texas Cotton Exchange, Lubbock Cotton Exchange, and the American Cotton Shippers Association. Andy eventually left the cotton business, moving to Fort Myers, FL, where he became a successful commercial real estate developer and later married Kim Mourhess.

Over the years he served on various boards, including the SW Florida Better Business Bureau, Southwest Florida Symphony, Downs Syndrome Association of Southwest Florida; and as a founding member of the Fort Myers Business Development Council. Andy was a Boy Scout leader at Cypress Lake United Methodist Church, coached their Southwest Florida Little League baseball teams, and was a leader in the Peace River Conference of Pop Warner football, as a coach and athletic director for the Cypress Lake Hornets.

After Hurricane Charlie destroyed his home and business, Andy entered the field of corporate security. He headed the Allegiance Security Group’s Memphis branch, and then served as Memphis Division Manager after the company’s merger with Universal Protection Services. He was North Texas Branch Manager of United American Security in Dallas before joining Pro Security Group in Waco. He maintained a home base in Memphis and his heart remained in Fort Myers with his family.

Andy was a proud poppa of five children, Brittany Hancock (Dan), Lance (Lisa), Zachary (Maureen), Dallas, and Cassie Cooper (Michael). He is predeceased by his parents Mary Elizabeth Thurmond and Louis S Daltroff of Memphis. He is survived by his five children, six grandchildren, brother Pat Daltroff (Melvin) of Palm Springs, CA, sister Laurie Daltroff Triplette (Jeff) of Oxford, MS, his aunt Ruth Callicott Thurmond of Memphis, numerous cousins, and a posse of special lifelong friends (you know who you are, and we love you).

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 10, at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis. The family will receive friends in the Riverside Chapel at 1. The service follows immediately afterward at 2 pm, officiated by Jeff Roach - one of those special friends, and assisted by Andy’s daughter Cassie, a youth minister in Fort Myers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Down Syndrome Foundation of Florida, info@dsfflorida.org , or the charity of choice.
