Julie Browning Winters

-

Julie Browning Winters died on November 15, 2022. She was the beloved daughter of Frances and Lloyd Winters. Julie’s childhood memories were happy ones filled with life long friendships she made on Audubon Drive in Memphis. Her family attended St. Johns Episcopal Church. The late Dr. Marcus Stewart was her godfather. She always appreciated the wonderful education she received at Hutchison School, for she told one of her friends that it served her well in the working world. Her early childhood teacher, Miss Helen Lowrance, made such an impression on Julie that she often referred to the manners she learned from her that are no longer taught. In Julie’s senior annual she quoted from the Alma Mater, “Memories of years we’ve spent here will never be forgot.” Julie enjoyed her days at the University of Memphis. She did not want to travel far from home. Julie always wanted to stay close to her mom who was still living at the time. She began her first job with a successful commodities ‘ trader named Charlie Mcvean. She could hold her own in that fast paced business, for she had a quick mind and a strong back bone. She later went on to work for Vining Sparks Money Managers and then to the United Bank of Switzerland. One of the partners from UBS said out of the 15 years she worked at the bank she never once made a mistake. Her two partners from UBS, Elliot and Mike, were also amazing friends who helped her tremendously when she became ill. Julie would get up at 4 every morning to be at work and prepared for the fast paced day ahead. She had a great sense of humor, but she was all business at the same time. She passed the very difficult Series 7 test the first time with flying colors. It is considered the most difficult of all the securities licensing exams. Her cat, Lucas, was the love of her life as well as her friends. Her cards for birthday, Christmas, etc. always arrived on the exact day. She never forgot anyone. Her lawyer, Cindy, was a devoted friend as well. Her childhood boyfriend, Chuck, remained her devoted friend until her last breath. Julie’s mom always said “Julie will figure it out”. Her mom had such confidence in her, and Julie proved her Mother right. Julie was a survivor. She fought hard, she worked hard but she always remembered to be a lady, for that was what her teacher taught her.
