Giving THANKS for MEMPHIS

-

Thanksgiving is a great holiday. Everyone gets a free pass on eating what they want – from turkey and dressing to homemade apple pie.

It’s also a time for reflection. And yes, looking ahead to the rest of the holiday season. Maybe you have a wish list. Or maybe you’re excited about what you’ll buy your children or significant other. Truthfully, that’s a luxury many of us enjoy.

Which is why it is also important to stop a moment and count our blessings. If that sounds corny to you, sorry. It’s true. We need to be thankful. I know I’m very fortunate. I’m betting a lot of you feel the same way.

As Memphians, we have a pretty good life. It’s not perfect—the city has work that it needs to do in some areas—but I am very thankful I call Memphis home.

Ours is not a cookie-cutter city that could be confused with many others. We’re more than strip malls and national chain restaurants. Our city is “real.”

Our city has a unique heart, a deep soul.

We’re workers, too. Blue-collar even when we’re white-collar. We’re not afraid to sweat or to pick ourselves up and take another run at a project.

In Memphis, we address our issues. We won’t all agree on everything, but we try to make our city a better place, day by day.

Best of all, we’re a city of helpers. Every metric that measures a city’s generosity always seems to land Memphis in the Top 5 nationally. We’re givers and I’m proud of that because it’s not true everywhere.

Of course, work is what keeps the whole American enterprise going. It’s what keeps this city going. Thankful for that, too. And that Memphis continues to grow. Blueoval City promises to be a game-changer for the entire metro area.

Meanwhile, every year REALTORS® help more people make their home ownership dreams come true. Some of those people are first-time homeowners. It’s a big moment in their lives. An unforgettable moment.

So, as I take that second helping of mashed potatoes I don’t need, I’ll also pause to count the blessings, including living in Memphis—a really cool place.

Here’s hoping you and yours enjoy the holiday season and all your blessings.
