James Raymond Pegg

-

- James Raymond Pegg was born in Memphis, Tennessee on July 22, 1935. Raised by his parents, Gertrude and Marvin Pegg, he had one sister and two brothers. During his youth the family moved to Fort Worth where he attended Pascal High School. He met his future wife, Norma Dabney, at church and were married in their teens. Years later James Alvin was born; Elizabeth Ann followed. Raised in a Christian Disciples of Christ family, he raised his children in the same way.

“Jim” Pegg briefly attended TCU to obtain a Business Administration degree, but entered the business world to gain a promotion for the welfare of his family. He served in the US Marine Corps as a Reservist from 1955 and was honorably discharged in April of 1963. He began his sales career with Ramco piston rings—the family got to attend a lot of racing at area racetracks—and then partnered with Brunswick, selling bowling supplies and other assorted recreational equipment. Not long after, Jim became Vice President of Sales for Salomen Ski bindings and opened the Alpine Ski Haus in Akron, Ohio, selling and customizing ski equipment and specialized clothing. In 1978, when the youngest child graduated from high school, the family moved back to Texas, escaping the cold winters of Ohio.

During his free time James R. Pegg enjoyed refereeing football games, mostly high school and college games. He refereed from the 1960’s to when he threw down the flag for the last time in 2012. He refereed under SFOA and was formerly associated with Taso the Fort Worth Chapter; he was even the president of the local chapter of referees. (SOFA)
