That is, unless you’re headed for the Mid-south Music Festival, the final game of the Memphis Redbirds first homestand, Libertyland’s season opener, the March of Dimes Walk America fundraiser, a cat show or a gem and mineral show.

United States officials indicated today that the first group of American prisoners of war held in jungles along the South Vietnam-cambodia border would be released this week in the An Loc area, 60 miles north of Saigon and 10 miles from the nearest point on the Cambodian border.
75 years ago — 1948
NEW YORK – The Freedom Train will interrupt its nationwide tour March 1 to undergo an overhauling and repair job. The American Heritage Foundation, sponsor of the train carrying priceless American documents, announced Wednesday night the train will be laid up for one week at San Bernardino, Calif. The tour then will be resumed.
100 years ago — 1923
Cold winds whistled around Memphis all day yesterday as the thermometer hovered around 16 degrees from 7 until 12 o’clock in the morning as the city greeted the coldest day in three years. No serious damage was reported, either from suffering or property damage from the wind.
125 years ago — 1898
Chief of Police Richards yesterday went on record on the question as to whether “grafters,” tin-horn gamblers and hobos are to have unlicensed sway or are to be forced to either seek some legitimate means of earning a livelihood or to depart. All patrolmen and detectives have been instructed to hold up characters of this description and to offer them the alternative of accepting conditions proposed or leaving town.
