Potential 2023 Mr. Basketball finalists

The state is covered with high school basketball talent and as the regularsea­son winds down, here is a look at who could be potential Mr. Basketball finalists.

The TSSAA will announce three finalist in each classifica­tion next week and the winners will be announced during the boys state tournament next month.

Class 4A

Jordan Frison, Memphis Overton, Sr. Frison is averaging 29.2 points and 4.1 assists. He has a 54-point game and a 44-point game this season.

Jarred Hall, Lebanon, Sr. Hall is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state by Prephoops.com and has committed to Tulsa. He averages 28 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals.

Jett Montgomery, Independen­ce, Jr. Montgomery leads the Eagles with a 24-point average and 3.1 rebounds.

Brock Vice, Houston, Sr: The 6foot-10 forward is a St. Louis signee who is averaging a double-double and has helped the Mustangs to an eightgame win streak.

Class 3A

Emanuel Allen, Ridgeway, Jr. Allen leads the Roadrunner­s with 18.4 points a game and 11.7 rebounds.

Tylon Chatman, Haywood, Sr. Chatman is averaging 19.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals and has an offer from Cumberland University.

Shane Cherry, Austin-east, So. The Roadrunner­s guard is averaging 24.2 points, 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals this season and has offers from Georgia Tech, Auburn and Tennessee State.

Damarien Yates, Fayette Ware, Sr. The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging a double-double for the second straight year. He averages 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5.0 assists)

Class 2A

Jordan Allen, Hillcrest Jr. The 5foot-10 point guard is averaging 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 5.2 steals.

Jahvin Carter, Alcoa, Jr. Carter was named all state last year and is averaging 26 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists this season.

Ty Glasper, Gatlinburg-pittman, So. In only his second season, Glasper is already a 1,000-point scorer and is averaging 25.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists.

Jaylen Jones, East Nashville, Sr. Jones has led the Eagles to two state tournament appearance­s and a state title last year. He’s averaging 23.3 points and 7.6 assists this season.

Class 1A

Jacob Amonett, Pickett County, So. The 6-0 point guard averages 19.5 points, 5.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds. His brother, Zach, was a finalist in 2022.

Jason Britton, North Greene, Jr. Britton leads the Huskies while averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.5 steals.

R.J. Robinson, Middleton, Sr. Robinson is averaging 21.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.4 steals for the Tigers. He was a finalist last year.

Auden Slaughter, Santa Fe, So. The Wildcats star has five games of over 30 points and scored 50 last week.

Division II-A

Christian Gilliland, Northpoint Christian, Jr. The 6-2 Memphis native is averaging 28.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.2 steals for the Trojans.

Kavien Jones, BGA, Jr. The 6-6 forward is averaging 23 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks this season.

Eddie Ricks III, Clarksvill­e Academy, Sr. The Morehead State signee and 2022 Mr. Basketball finalist is averaging 24.2 points, 8.9 rebounds 2.5 steals and 2.4 blocks.

Isaiah West, Goodpastur­e, Sr. West is committed to Vanderbilt and is averaging He’s averaging 13.7 points and 5.8 rebounds as one of the best point guards in middle Tennessee. (Vanderbilt commit)

DII-AA

Kaleb Beasley, Lipscomb Academy, Jr. Beasley has made a smooth transition from a four-star football standout, where he’s committed to Tennessee, to the hardwood, averaging 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Jacob Gazzo, Briarcrest, Sr. The 6-8 Saints star is averaging 18.5 points and 6.1 rebounds and is committed to Ole Miss.

Marcel Reed, Montgomery Bell Academy, Sr. The Texas A&M football signee has been a leader on the court as MBA and Brentwood Academy make a run for the Middle Region regular-season title. He recently went over 1,000 points for his career.

Tyler Tanner, Brentwood Academy, Jr. Tanner earned a spot as a finalist last year. He returns this season, averaging 18 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 streals.
