Potential 2023 Miss Basketball finalists

The girls high school basketball regular season is winding down in the next two weeks as the postseason draws close. The TSSAA will announce its Mr. and Miss Basketball finalists next week.

While the TSSAA will select three finalists for each classifica­tion, here are four candidates we’re looking at in each class for the 2023 Miss Basketball finalists.

Class 4A

Imari Berry, Clarksvill­e, Jr. The four-star guard is averaging 27.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.7 steals per game for the Lady Wildcats and has offers from South Carolina, Tennessee, Uconn and Louisville.

Mallory Collier, Bartlett, Sr. Collier, who signed with N.C. State, is averaging 12.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in only 19 minutes per game.

Emily Monson, Blackman, Sr. Monson is a Purdue signee who is averaging 16.0 points and 3.5 rebounds for the Blaze.

Avery Treadwell, Bearden, Sr. The Florida State signee is averaging 16.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.6 blocks for No. 1-ranked Bearden. Her teammate Jennifer Sullivan won the award in 2022 and is now at Tennessee Tech.

Class 3A

Lauren Bailey, Greenevill­e, Sr.: Bailey is averaging 15 points and six rebounds a game with three steals and three assists.

Abigail Johnson, Upperman, Sr. Johnson averages 16.1 points and 9.9 rebounds for the second-ranked Bees.

Timia Lawson, Jackson South Side, Sr.: Lawson leads the top-ranked Lady Hawks with 12.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.9 steals.

Nia Powers, White County, Sr. Powers leads the team with 11 doubledoub­les this season. She averages 20.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Class 2A

Reese Beaty, York Institute, So. The sophomore guard helped guide York Institute to the 2A state title game last year. She’s averaging 16.3 points this season.

Jada Harrison, Westview, Sr. The MTSU signee was a finalist last year, is averaging 16 points this season for the defending state champions.

Maddy Newman, Gatlinburg-pittman, Jr. The junior is averaging 20.6 points and 6.3 rebounds and has offers from MTSU, East Tennessee State, Murray State and Wofford.

Ally Weathers, Loretto, So. Weathers has picked up where her sister left off. Karly Weather captured the Miss Basketball award last season and Ally is averaging 16 points this season.

Class 1A

Blair Baugus, Wayne County, So. The Lady Wildcats forward is averaging 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.1 blocks and already has offers from MTSU, Lipscomb, North Alabama and Chattanoog­a.

Layla Bouldin, Van Buren, Jr. Bouldin averages 24.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists

Lyndie Ramsey, Unaka, Sr. Ramsey is among the top scorers in the state, averaging 29.0 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.9 steals. The three-time all-state star is Carter County’s all-time leading scorer for boys or girls.

Kelsey Pike, Oneida, Sr. Pike leads Oneida with 18.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.1 steals.

Division II-A

Jailyn Banks, MTCS, Sr. The Belmont signee is averaging 20 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals.

Aalyah Del Rosario, Webb School, Sr. Rosario, an LSU signee, was named a 2023 Mcdonald’s All American last week.

Atyia Moss, Clarksvill­e Academy, Sr., Moss has been among the contributo­rs to one of DII-A District 4’s best teams, averaging 14 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists this season.

Angelica Velez, Webb School, Sr.: Like Del Rosario, she’s an LSU signee. She’s averaged 9.5 points and an eyepopping 8.5 assists a game for the Lady Feet with 2.5 steals.

Division II-AA

Jaloni Cambridge, Ensworth, Jr. Cambridge is the No. 1-ranked player in the country by ESPN for the 2024 class and last year’s Miss Basketball winner. She averages 28.1 points, 3.5 steals, 8.4 rebounds and 4.1 steals this season with offers from powerhouse programs Baylor, Connecticu­t, Florida, Louisville, Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Kayli Clarkson, Briarcrest Christian, Sr. Clarkson is averaging 18.4 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Trinity Fields, Brentwood Academy, Sr. The 1,000-point scorer has already committed to play at Unc-asheville next season.

Sydney Mains, Knoxville Catholic, Jr. Mains was a Miss Basketball finalist last season and averages 20.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.
