Bartlett move to No. 1 after win over Briarcrest
Region tournaments will begin this week in Memphis area girls high school basketball. Bartlett and Arlington face off in yet another district championship game and a new team makes its debut in this week’s rankings. Here’s where the top Memphis-area girls teams rank this week.
1. Bartlett (27-7): The Panthers defeated Collierville in the district tournament semifinals and will play Arlington in the championship game Tuesday.
2. Briarcrest (26-4): The Saints begin the Division II-AA tournament this week and have a first-round bye. A loss to Bartlett last week dropped the Saints to No. 2 this week.
3. Fayette-ware (23-6): The Wildcats look to win a district championship this week ahead of the region tournament.
4. Whitehaven (22-2): The Tigers defeated Central in the District 16-4A championship game Friday night and will be the No. 1 seed from their league entering the region tournament.
5. Arlington (19-6): Arlington has the District 15-4A championship on Tuesday ahead of the region tournament, which begins this week.
6. Westwood (15-4): The Longhorns have won the last eight ahead of the region tournament this week.
7. Trezevant (21-6): The Bears defeated Memphis Business Academy last week in the district championship game and will be a No. 1 seed, entering the region tournament.
8. FACS (18-5): The Crusaders play Nashville Christian in the Division II-A first round this week after falling to Trinity Christian Academy and Fayette Academy in the region tournament last week.
9. Houston (20-9): The Mustangs fell to Arlington in the district tournament semifinals. They will be on the road in the first round of the region tournament.
10. Memphis Central (14-8): The Warriors are the No. 2 seed in the region tournament after a 45-41 loss to Whitehaven in the district championship game.
