William Henry Hudson Sr.

William Henry Hudson Sr., beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle, was called to his eternal resting place February 21, 2023. Born on October 23, 1942, in Memphis, TN to Cleophus and Genella Hudson.

His presence will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Mary “Joy” Gracin Hudson, his children: Michele (John) Perez, William (Nicole) Hudson Jr.; and his grandson Benjamin William Perez.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Cleophus Hudson, Herman (Caecilia) Hudson and T.C. Thomas.

He is survived by his brothers: Charles (Alice) Hudson and Dr. Rickey (Carol) Hudson Sr; Sister: Barbara Thomas, Sisters in law Rose Hudson, Patsy (Ron) Gearing, and Brother in law George (Denise) Gracin as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

William attended Melrose school and was a graduate of Fisk University and obtained a Master’s Degree from Memphis State University. His 30 year career in education included Mildred Jackson High School in Hughes, Arkansas; Manassas High School, Memphis, Tennessee; until retiring as the first African American Principal of Westside Junior/senior High school in 1994. After retirement from Memphis City schools, he extended his career by working for Tennessee Infant Parent Services to assist children and families with special needs until the program was defunded.

Visitation will be held at Mt. Pisgah CME Church 2490 Park Avenue, Memphis TN. 38114, from 11:00 AM to 11:55 AM Saturday March 4, 2023. Services to follow at noon.
