Here is the Commercial Appeal’s Allmetro girls soccer teams. The team’s are split up into first and second team.

Player of the year Allie Broadway

Midfielder | Evangelical Christian | So.

Evangelical Christian School dropped its first two games of the season and sophomore midfielder Allie Broadway was confident the Eagles were going to turn it around.

They didn’t lose the rest of the season, ending an 18-game win streak with a state championship in a 2-0 win over St. George’s in October. Broadway helped the Eagles win their first Division II-A state championship since 2016. She is The Commercial Appeal’s 2023 Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

“It was so exciting,” Broadway said. “We kind of owed it to ourselves because of how much work and effort we were putting in and it was really exciting to finally do that accomplishment together.”

Broadway scored 21 goals and had 22 assists this past season with the Eagles. She was also named to the all-region tournament team, all-state tournament team and was named the region MVP.

“Every game, I just thought it was another reset and another game,” Broadway said of why she had such a strong season.

When things started rough, Broadway said the team had a meeting with coach Jordan Thompson and had to figure out how to turn things around. Sure Broadway believed ECS could turn things around, but the rest of the team needed to believe it too.

Once they did, Broadway knew the Eagles were going to have success this season.

Broadway is just a sophomore so her recruitment hasn’t picked up much yet. But after a season of 20-plus goals and assists and another season with her club team, Lobos Rush, which is in Collierville,

she’s confident she can attain her dream of playing Division I soccer.

“A lot of our team was returning players and we had a lot of chemistry together,” Broadway said of why she was confident about the team’s title run. “I think it was just really fitting.”
