Here are The Commercial Appeal’s boys basketball All-metro teams for the 2023-24 season.
Cooper Haynes

Guard | Senior
Why chosen: Haynes, a Belmont signee, averaged 20.4 points per game this season with the Saints. He finished his career with 2,664 points and is the top scorer in Shelby County for private schools and No. 12 all time in Shelby County scoring history.
KJ Tenner
Cordova
Guard | Senior
Why chosen: Tenner, who recently committed to West Virginia, won the TSSAA Class 4A Mr. Basketball award and is The Commercial Appeal’s 2024 boys basketball player of the year. He averaged over 20 points per game this season.
Cordova
Guard | Senior
Why chosen: Thedford, a Missouri State signee, averaged over 20 points per game this season, helping the Wolves reach the sectional round this season.

Bartlett
Forward | Senior
Why chosen: The Arkansas State signee averaged over 15 points and more than 10 rebounds in his lone season with the Panthers after transferring from Link Academy ahead of this season.
Fred Smith

Forward | Sophomore
Why chosen: Smith averaged 15.9
points per game, nine rebounds and a team-high 4.3 assists this season, leading the Saints to their first state title since 2019. He scored 29 points and 15 rebounds in the Division II-AA state championship game.

Coach of the year
Dee Wilkes, First Assembly Christian School
Wilkes coached the Crusaders to its second state championship in three years as the completed the come-frombehind win to defeat Providence Christian Academy, 57-55 back in March. FACS finished with a 27-3 record, winning the final 16 games of the season. Wilkes announced on April 3 that he was taking the coaching job at St. George’s.
