25 years ago — 1999

Fifteen (case managers) into 360 (square feet) is 24. Twenty-four square feet is roughly the amount of space available to each case manager in the 360-square-foot room they share at Frayser-millington Mental Health Center. The math explains part of the reason the 23-year-old center will soon start a 3,500-square-foot, $300,000 expansion. Frayser-millington Mental Health Center is a nonprofit operation that serves medically indigent patients.

50 years ago — 1974

WASHINGTON – A federal survey released Sunday of five big cities

showed the actual crime rate is several times higher than police think because most of the crimes are never reported. For Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles and New York the survey found two or three times as many crimes as were reported to police. In Philadelph­ia, for some unexpected reason, the report showed there were five times as many.

75 years ago — 1949

ATLANTA – Granted that rabbits multiply almost as fast as legend has it. And granted that, on the stage, they sometimes appear out of hats. What a Montgomery, Ala., fisherman wants to know is: Do Easter bunnies appear from nowhere? He stepped out of his

car this week to do some roadside fishing. He returned to find three newlyborn, but orphaned, rabbits in the back seat of his car.

100 years ago — 1924

Union Avenue all the way out to S. Mclean Boulevard will be made a business street and be given over to commercial purposes if the City Planning Commission complies with the request of more than half the property owners. A petition asking that the “use and area” restrictio­ns on Union Avenue be changed to this effect was presented to the planning commission yesterday by Henry Craft, attorney.
