New York appeals court overturns Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction
A New York appeals court has overturned embattled Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction, after finding that the judge for the trial handed down improper rulings.
The case, which helped popularize the #Metoo movement and spurred a reckoning in the entertainment industry, began in 2017 and led to a wave of allegations against the 72-year-old movie mogul. The 2020 rape conviction led to a 23-year prison sentence for Weinstein.
The New York court ordered a new trial for Weinstein, who will remain in a California prison due to a 2022 conviction for rape, which led to a 16-year sentence.
USA TODAY has reached out to Weinstein's reps for comment.
‘Golden Bachelor’ star’s daughter criticizes fan response to divorce
The news of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist's divorce hit many people by surprise, and Turner's daughter Angie has taken to Instagram to weigh in on the backlash her family has received since the couple announced their divorce on “Good Morning America” earlier this month.
“It's no surprise the news of my Dad and Theresa choosing to split has sparked a range of emotions and opinions,” she wrote on Instagram. “I love how invested people were in the show, what an experience to have you along for the ride!”
“What has been disheartening is the level of rage and cruelty that our family has been met with. My Dad and Theresa are kind, good people that made this decision for them, on one else,” Angie wrote. “I kindly urge everyone to remember that behind every story, there are real people with real feelings.”
The couple participated in the first season of “The Golden Bachelor” and were married on live television in January with the season's other contestants in attendance.
Documentary to investigate sex-abuse claims against Carters
The network behind “Quiet on Set” is turning focus to Nick and Aaron Carter next.
Investigation Discovery has dropped a trailer for a new four-part documentary series called “Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter,” which will delve into the sexual assault allegations against Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, as
well as his brother Aaron Carter's mental health struggles and substance abuse issues. Aaron Carter died in 2022 after drowning in his bathtub.
The documentary is set to feature interviews with Nick Carter accusers Melissa Schuman, Ashley Repp and Shay Ruth, as well as his ex-girlfriend Kaya Jones, and Melanie Martin, the former fiancé of Aaron Carter. In the trailer, Jones says, “There's things that I know about Nick that could burn his house down.”
Nick Carter has denied the allegations of sexual assault. His attorney, Liane K. Wakayama, told USA TODAY in 2023 that a lawsuit filed against him by Schuman alleging sexual assault was a “PR stunt,” adding, “Melissa Schuman has been peddling this tale for many years, but her allegation was false when she first made it back in 2017 – and it still is.”
Cox recalls boyfriend breaking up with her during therapy session
Courteney Cox is opening up about being blindsided by boyfriend Johnny
Mcdaid while they were engaged.
The “Friends” alum, 59, appeared on an episode of the “Minnie Questions with Minnie Driver” podcast on Wednesday where she revealed she and the Snow Patrol singer, 47, went to therapy about three years into their relationship to discuss “boundaries.”
“We broke up in therapy. I didn't know it was coming,” Cox recalled. “He just broke up within the first minute. And I was like, what? We were engaged and I was so shocked. I was in so much pain.”
The actress said Mcdaid was “an incredible human being” but had been in a lot of “pain” in their relationship. “There was that much that needed to be dealt with that he had to protect himself around his heart.”
Cox and Mcdaid began dating in 2013 months after the actress' divorce from David Arquette, with whom she shares 19-year-old daughter Coco. The “Cougar Town” actress and singer got engaged the following year, but split in 2015. The pair has since reconciled, although they have not gotten engaged again.
