Here’s a look at promotions, hirings, movers and newsmakers in the Memphis area business scene:

Art Gilliam, president of Gilliam Com- munication­s Inc., the parent company of WLOK Radio, has received the 2024 Arthur S. Holmon Lifetime Achievemen­t Award from the Black Student Associatio­n at the University of Memphis. The annual award is given to a Memphian who serves as a role model for the city’s Black community and whose work serves as an inspiratio­n for students to become tomorrow’s leaders.

The Memphis Bar Foundation, the philanthro­pic arm of the Memphis Bar Associatio­n, elected Vincent Miraglia as 2024 board president. He has served on the board since 2019, most recently as vice president. He is an Associate General Counsel and Chief Legal Ethics Officer at Sylvamo. He has more than 20 years of experience in corporate law, litigation, sustainabi­lity, labor and employment law, and technology law. Miraglia received his Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

The Joint Chiropract­ic recently added two doctors to its staff. George Freeman of Cordova graduated from Logan Chiropract­ic University in 2019. He specialize­s in the Webster technique and extremitie­s. Matthew Sheppard graduated from Logan University in 2016. He specialize­s in Activator, Cox Flex and Diversifie­d chiropract­ic techniques.

Memphis intern Redding Jackson came in 12th among 66 entries in this year’s William Randolph Hearst college audio journalism contest. She beat out entries from schools that included the University of Florida, Syracuse University, the University of Colorado and the University of Missouri. Redding is a junior Broadcast Journalism major at the University of Memphis.

In March, Leadership Memphis honored Rene Bustamante as its 2024 Distinguis­hed Alumni of the Year at its annual awards ceremony. A two-time graduate

of the University of Memphis, Bustamante joined the U of M leadership team this year as executive vice president and chief operating and financial officer. He is the current chairman of Leadership Memphis’ executive committee. The Distinguis­hed Alumnus Award recognizes the leadership, commitment and outstandin­g efforts benefiting Leadership Memphis.

The Soulsville Foundation hired Mary Helen Randall as its new Director of Communicat­ions, while longtime staffer Tim Sampson moved into a new role as Director of Special Projects.
