Pine Forge off to commanding start

PINE FORGE 15, CALN (1) 6 » Ryan Jacobs collected five hits in six at bats — including hitting for the cycle — to help lead Pine Forge to victory. Jacobs singled in the first, singled in the fourth, homered in the sixth, tripled in the seventh, and doubled in the seventh. Pine Forge struggled at the plate early and found itself on the short end of a 3-1 score vs. Caln 1 after three full innings. It seemed as if Pine Forge would lose back-to-back games but that all changed in the top of the fourth. With two outs and nobody aboard, the Pine Forge bats came to life and they plated three runs to take the lead for good. The hits kept coming in the sixth and seventh, when they added five runs and six runs, respective­ly, to take a commanding 15-3 lead. Caln didn’t go quietly and plated three of its own in the bottom of the seventh.

Pine Forge took an early lead in the first inning. Nick Chroscinsk­i singled on a 1-2 count in the first inning scoring Jacobs. Pine Forge took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth, Jacobs singled off of Duca, driving in one run and Sam Longacre singled off of Duca, driving in one run.

Jacobs started the scoring in the sixth with a 2-run blast to LF after Noah Kurtz led off with a walk. The big seventh inning was thanks to a double by Chroscinsk­i, a single by John DeMartino, an in-the-park home run by Max Putt, and a double by Jacobs.

DeMartino earned the win for Pine Forge. He threw six innings, allowing three runs, four hits, and striking out six.

PINE FORGE 12, CALN (1) 1 » On June 14, the Indians captured the lead in the first inning, scoring two early runs when Danny Monzo doubled with no outs in the first inning on their way to five first-inning runs. Pine Forge added two more in the second and add another five in the fourth. The big blow came on a 2-run home run into the trees beyond the scoreboard by Nick Chroscinsk­i after John DeMartino led off with a double.

Jonathan Wack earned the win for Pine Forge. He pitched five innings, giving up one run, three hits, and striking out six.

Seven of Pine Forge’s 10 starters had hits. Chroscinsk­i went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three RBI while Monzo, DeMartino, Ben Longacre all doubled. Monzo and Longacre each added two RBI.

PINE FORGE 13, AVON GROVE 0

» Logan Mabry gave up just one hit on the way to Pine Forge Red’s 13-0 five-inning win over Avon Grove Saturday afternoon.

The Indians racked up nine hits on the afternoon, led by Nick Chroscinsk­i’s 2-for-3 showing that included a bases-clearing double to go along with a triple. Sam Longacre had a multi-hit game while Victor Feliz had three stolen bases.

Pine Forge Blue is in first place in the Chesmont Senior Babe Ruth League at 9-2.

BOYERTOWN 5, SHILLINGTO­N

2» A three-run fifth inning was key to the Bears outlasting the Red Sox and winning their Berks County League game on June 14.

J.T. Cooley had a double and drove in two runs, and Boyertown got other RBI from Quinn Mason (double) and Billy Coleman. Justin Wieand went six innings to get the pitching win, scattering four hits and two walks against five strikeouts before Nolan Kline pitched a one-hit seventh.

DANIEL BOONE 7, BOYERTOWN 5 » A three-run fourth inning proved big for Daniel Boone’s American Legion baseball team on June 15.

The outburst enabled the Orioles to bypass Boyertown and claim a 7-5 victory in this Berks County League pairing at Bear Stadium.

Joey Moyer, Victor Gonzalez and Brett Goodrich all had RBIs for Boone, which trailed Boyertown by a 5-4 count prior to the fourth. Sean Bologa was the Orioles’ most consistent batter with a 4-for-4 showing, and Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to support Nick Dinocenti’s fivestrike­out complete-game pitching.

J.T. Cooley drove in two of Boyertown’s runs, and Tyler Kreitz had a triple as part of his 2-for-4 plate showing. Billy Coleman also tripled for the Bears, with Drew Hartman taking the mound loss.

BOYERTOWN 5, QUAKERTOWN 2 » In a non-league outing with the Bux-Mont League’s first-place team, the Bears made a big early lead hold up for the victory on June 17.

Tate Yergey (2-for-3) drove in a pair of runs to key Boyertown’s surge to a four-run lead through four. Michael Raineri went 2-for-2 and had another RBI to support the pitching of winning starter Sean Sutterby and reliever Jared Waldman.

TWIN VALLEY 7, BOYERTOWN

4» Twin Valley took control with a three-run ninth inning en route to a Berks County League victory on June 18.

The Raiders’ Colby Hiddeman went 4-for-5 with three RBI and got the save with a scoreless final inning, supporting winning pitcher Blake Greenley (3 IP, 5 hits, two runs).

Starting pitcher Mike Xanthopoul­os went 3-for-4 for Boyertown and went 6.1 innings, scattering nine hits for four runs (two earned) with three strikeouts.

Tate Yergey also had three hits for the Bears.

TWIN VALLEY 1 » The Bear Cubs had no trouble with Twin Valley in a five-inning win Tuesday while being led by multi-hit standouts Mason Kurtz, Daniel Goffredo (three RBI) and Tre Diguglelmo. Gavin Henderson and Patrick Wieand each drove in two runs.

Rosario LaSpina picked up the save recording the final five outs of the game. Nick Frey had two hits for the Indians and Chambers a two run double. Christian Schweizer had a double and an RBI for the Indians.

PINE FORGE 6, READING

OLIVET 0 » Joey Bales threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts, keying the Indians’ City/County League victory over Reading Olivet on June 16.

Bales backed his pitching performanc­e at the plate, collecting two hits and an RBi in addition to scoring once. Rosario LaSpina chipped in with another two hits, two runs and two stolen two bases for Pine Forge (7-1), and Justin King drove in two runs with a double in the sixth to put the game away.

BOYERTOWN BEAR PAWS 5,

PERK VALLEY 4 » The Bear Paws remained unbeaten in MBC Prep play with a win over Perk Valley on June 14. Brandon Shane started and Colin Eisenhard came in relief to secure the win. Shane led the Paws at the plate going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Luke Moser, Ryan Maloney (RBI), and Evan Hetrick also had hits for the Bear Paws.

BOYERTOWN 14, OLEY/TOPTON 4 » The Bear Paws moved to 5-1 on the season by rolling over Oley/Topton on June 15.

The Paws had eight hits, headed by a triple from Brandon Shane (3-for4) and a double from Colin Eisenhard. Luke Moser was 2-3 in support of Ethan Ferraro, who pitched three strong innings of one-hit, five-strikeout ball.

BOYERTOWN BEAR PAWS 9,

UPPER PERKIOMEN 3 » The Bear Paws racked up nine hits on their way to a win over Upper Perk.

Brandon Shane and Ryan Maloney each finished with two hits — Shane knocking a two-run triple. Ryan Willing picked up the win pitching the first four innings before turning it over to Nathan Fox for the remainder.
