Program offers hopes for Parkinson’s patients
LSVT BIG exercise program now available at Mishock Physical Therapy & Associates
There is hope for patients who suffer with Parkinson’s disease, stroke, brain injury and other movement disorders.
Mishock Physical Therapy & Associates now offers LSVT BIG, a research-based program for those patients who suffer with Parkinson’s disease, stroke, brain injury and other movement disorders.
LSVT BIG is a standardized exercise program, which has documented improved ratings on tests of motor functioning in people with Parkinson’s disease and is available in our clinics in Barto and Stowe.
We currently have three therapists who are now LSVT BIG certified.
Ann R. Miller, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS, joined Mishock Physical Therapy in August 2010 and is currently the clinical director at Stowe. Ann also has an Athletic Trainer Certification and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She has over 26 years of experience.
Jeff Skolny, MSPT, has been with Mishock PT since 2013. He has been a therapist in outpatient clinics since 2005. He specializes in therapy for joint replacements, orthopedic surgeries and Bell’s palsy.
Monica Hallman, PTA, CKTP, clinical director of the Barto clinic, has been with the Mishock team since 2006. She has 30 years of experience in outpatient therapy. Monica is proficient in manual therapy, including myofascial release, and is also skilled in orthopedics, sports medicine, neurology, TMJ relief, work hardening and Kinesio taping.
LSVT BIG relies on behavior modification and strengthening and improves brain function in patients who suffer from Parkinson’s disease. It can also be helpful for people with other neurological conditions such as stroke, brain injury, movement disorders and Parkinsonlike symptoms.
Dr. Allan Weber, of PMSI Division of Neurology in Pottstown, states, “I’ve been treating Parkinson’s patients for 15 years in this community and BIG is the first physical therapy program available locally specifically to address the unique needs of Parkinson’s patients.”
