Woman struck, killed by ve­hi­cle

POTTSTOWN >> Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing af­ter a fe­male pedes­trian was fa­tally struck late Oct. 3 on Ar­mand Ham­mer Boule­vard and Sun­set Drive.

Po­lice were called to the scene just across from the main en­trance of Pottstown Hos­pi­tal at around 7:23 p.m. for a re­port of an ac­ci­dent in­volv­ing a pedes­trian.

Pre­lim­i­nary in­for­ma­tion re­vealed that the vic­tim, iden­ti­fied by po­lice as Dorothy McCamp­bell, 56, of Phoenixville, had been at work at the hos­pi­tal. McCamp­bell was struck by a late model Jeep as she crossed Ar­mand Ham­mer Boule­vard.

She was rushed to Pottstown Hos­pi­tal but suc­cumbed to her in­juries, po­lice said.

Au­thor­i­ties said the driver of the Jeep Chero­kee, iden­ti­fied by po­lice as Ryan Fitch, 25, of Manasquan, N.J., stopped at the scene and is co­op­er­at­ing with the joint in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­ing con­ducted by Pottstown Po­lice and Mont­gomery County De­tec­tives.

Pottstown Po­lice were as­sisted at the scene by Mont­gomery County De­tec­tives, Trappe Am­bu­lance per­son­nel, Good­will Am­bu­lance per­son­nel and per­son­nel from the Pottstown Fire De­part­ment.

Pottstown Po­lice and the Mont­gomery County Dis­trict At­tor­ney’s Of­fice are con­tin­u­ing to in­ves­ti­gate the crash. No de­ter­mi­na­tion has been made in re­gard to pos­si­ble charges against the driver, po­lice said.
