Woman struck, killed by vehicle
POTTSTOWN >> Police are investigating after a female pedestrian was fatally struck late Oct. 3 on Armand Hammer Boulevard and Sunset Drive.
Police were called to the scene just across from the main entrance of Pottstown Hospital at around 7:23 p.m. for a report of an accident involving a pedestrian.
Preliminary information revealed that the victim, identified by police as Dorothy McCampbell, 56, of Phoenixville, had been at work at the hospital. McCampbell was struck by a late model Jeep as she crossed Armand Hammer Boulevard.
She was rushed to Pottstown Hospital but succumbed to her injuries, police said.
Authorities said the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, identified by police as Ryan Fitch, 25, of Manasquan, N.J., stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the joint investigation being conducted by Pottstown Police and Montgomery County Detectives.
Pottstown Police were assisted at the scene by Montgomery County Detectives, Trappe Ambulance personnel, Goodwill Ambulance personnel and personnel from the Pottstown Fire Department.
Pottstown Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate the crash. No determination has been made in regard to possible charges against the driver, police said.
