Daniel Boone drops OJR for Eastern Conference title

- By Mercury staff sports@pottsmerc.com

The Daniel Boone football team got a measure of revenge Friday night. And a trophy to go with it.

The Blazers reversed a regular-season result against Owen J. Roberts and were victorious in the Eastern Conference 5A/6A championship game, 28-20, at Owen J. Roberts.

Casey Lacey provided Daniel Boone (6-5), which fell to OJR 28-7 in Week 2, with the winning score on a 14-yard touchdown run with 1:43 remaining in the third quarter and a 2814 lead. While the Blazers surrendered a quick touchdown on a 54-yard reception by Connor Leister for OJR (6-5), they buckled down in a scoreless fourth quarter.

It was Lacey’s second touchdown after he and quarterback Tommy Buchert connected on a 50yard TD pass in the final minute of the second quarter. The score gave Boone the lead for good after Marcus Martin’s 10-yard TD run leveled the score 14-14 with 2:41 left in the first half.

Buchert did damage on the ground in the first half with touchdown runs of 92 and 11 yards

The Eastern Conference consists of member schools primarily in Districts 3, 4 and 11. The organization stages four classification-size determined ‘championship’ games for the top schools in each division that did not make their respective PIAA district playoffs. Boyertown won last year’s 5A/6A Eastern Conference final.
