World renowned vo­cal­ist/ gui­tarist Phyl­lis Chap­pell to per­form in Ham­burg

World renowned vo­cal­ist/gui­tarist Phyl­lis Chap­pell will bring an in­ter­na­tional reper­toire of mu­sic to the Ham­burg Strand Theater on Nov. 18.

Chap­pell has spent her life de­vel­op­ing a uni­ver­sal mu­si­cal style, singing “world songs” in 13 lan­guages from Brazil, Latin Amer­ica, Eu­rope, Africa and the Mid­dle East, as well as Amer­i­can folk, jazz, and pop­u­lar mu­sic. She also has a reper­toire of award win­ning orig­i­nal songs.

Per­form­ing in con­cert at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, The Kim­mel Cen­ter for the Per­form­ing Arts in Philadel­phia, and countless other venues and fes­ti­vals through­out the coun­try, she has gained no­to­ri­ety for her tal­ents. She has also per­formed in Brazil, Latin Amer­ica and Eu­rope.

Chapell has been named one of the top jazz vo­cal­ists of all time by Scott Yanow (Down Beat, Jazz Times, and Al­lMu­sicGuide). She is pri­mar­ily a solo artist but loves col­lab­o­ra­tion with other mu­si­cians. John T. Bai­ley, a na­tive Ham­burg mu­si­cian and singer, will be join­ing her at the Ham­burg Strand telling sto­ries and play­ing mu­sic from his days of hitch­hik­ing across Amer­ica.

The show is Sun­day, Nov. 18, at the Strand Theater lo­cated at 6 S. 4th St. in down­town Ham­burg. Doors open at 12:30 pm, the show be­gins at 1 pm. A wine and cheese re­cep­tion will fol­low the show al­low­ing at­ten­dees to con­verse with the per­form­ers. Ticket price is $13 in ad­vance and $15 at the door.
