Kutztown Uni­ver­sity swings into Christ­mas with Jane Lynch

Broad­way and Emmy Award-win­ning ac­tress Jane Lynch and her posse bring a com­i­cally kitsch throw­back to the old World War II USO can­teen and 1960s Christ­mas spe­cials of yore, with “A Swingin’ Lit­tle Christ­mas” at Kutztown Uni­ver­sity on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. at Scha­ef­fer Au­di­to­rium.

Lynch is joined by fel­low comedic ac­tress Kate Flan­nery (The Of­fice) and dap­per Glee vo­cal ar­ranger Tim Davis. To­gether they nav­i­gate in and out of tight three-part har­monies backed by the Tony Guer­rero Quin­tet, whose leader penned the orig­i­nal tunes, in­clud­ing the comedic “Sen­ti­men­tal Christ­mas” and the el­e­gant “Win­ter’s Never Cold (When You’re Around).” Cov­ers in­clude “We Three Kings” and an es­pe­cially jaunty “Up on the House­top.”

Lynch is an Emmy and Golden Globe win­ner for her por­trayal of Sue Sylvester on Glee, and she is cur­rently the two-time Emmy Award-win­ning host of NBC’s Hol­ly­wood Game Night. Lynch em­barked on her own live con­cert tour, See Jane Sing, in 2015 with Flan­nery, Davis and The Tony Guer­rero Quin­tet. Their hol­i­day al­bum, “A Swingin’ Lit­tle Christ­mas!” is avail­able on iTunes, Ama­zon and other out­lets.

Flan­nery is best known for her nine sea­sons as Mered­ith on NBC’s The Of­fice. Re­cent TV ap­pear­ances in­clude New Girl, Amer­i­can House­wife, An­other Pe­riod and Brook­lyn Nine-Nine. Flan­nery is also Lynch’s side­kick in her anti-cabaret act See Jane Sing, hav­ing played the Kennedy Cen­ter, Joe’s Pub and 30 cities across the coun­try. Her orig­i­nal cult com­edy lounge act, the Lamp­shades, reg­u­larly plays com­edy fes­ti­vals and in and around Hol­ly­wood.

Davis has been singing and tour­ing for the past three years in See Jane Sing. Davis’ mu­sic pro­duc­ing and singing cred­its in­clude all six sea­sons of Glee, ABC’s Boy Band, the fea­ture film Love Is Afoot, Lady Gaga’s Su­per Bowl 2017 half­time show, A Pen­ta­tonix Christ­mas, Bar­bra Streisand’s 2017 con­cert tour, Lynch’s A Swingin’ Lit­tle Christ­mas!, The Peo­ple’s Choice Awards, Josh Groban’s Stages, Child­ish Gam­bino, the fea­ture film Beauty and the Beast, and TV’s The Amer­i­cans and The Gold­bergs.

The Tony Guer­rero Quin­tet has been a sta­ple of the South­ern Cal­i­for­nia jazz scene for many years and fea­tures Tony Guer­rero (trum­pet and pi­ano), Matt John­son (drums), Mark Visher (wood­winds), Dave Siebels (key­boards) and David Miller (stand-up bass).
