DePue Brothers to return to Miller Center for ‘A Classical Grassical Christmas.’
The DePue Brothers Band return to Reading Area Community College’s Miller Center for the Arts with their popular holiday program “A Classical Grassical Christmas” Sunday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m.
The four violinist brothers infuse holiday favorites with a vivid blend of bluegrass, classical, and rock genres. Opening the show will be Lyons Fiddle Festival 2018 award winner Judy Terwilliger joined by Matt Wlasniewski on guitar.
Members of the Reading Youth Symphony Orchestra will join the DePue Brothers Band on stage for the second half of the performance.
Situated in Philadelphia, this musical iconic family originally hails from Bowling Green, Ohio, and each brother is a classical virtuoso in his own right. As a family, they have been making music together for over 30 years. They were named “Musical Family of America” in 1989 by presidential decree, were the subject of a nationally televised PBS documentary in 1993, and two brothers, Jason and Zach, were featured in the documentary film “Music From the Inside Out,” in 2005.
Their first album as brothers, “Classical Grass,” sold out of its first printing. From Carnegie Hall to the Grand Ole Opry, the DePue Brothers have been performing all over the world. Coming together with Tony Trischka, Mark Cosgrove, Don Liuzzi and co-producer, Rodney Whittenberg, the band began performing and recording in 2004. “Weapons of Grass Construction,” with its progressive mix of genres, gives a direct nod to their classical training, while adding a deeper infusion of rock and blues.
The DePue Brothers Band performance at the Miller Center is funded in part by the Dr. Franco Endowment Fund.
Tickets for the DePue Brothers performance are $32 Adult, $15 Student and $27 for Miller Center Members and may be purchased by contacting the Miller Center box office at 610-607-6270 or visiting millercenter. racc.edu.
