Miller secures silver at tourney

CENTRAL MOUNTAIN >> Boyertown had four wrestlers claim medals from the King of the Mountain Tournament Saturday.

Jacob Miller picked up silver at 195 after forfeiting the final for medical reasons. Evan Mortimer was fourth at 160, Julien Maldonado also forfeited the 106-pound championsh­ip bout for medical reasons, and Brett Breidor was eighth at 152.

Boyertown finished 17th in the team standings in the 32-team field, scoring 78 points.

WEST CHESTER EAST >> Perkiomen Valley placed fourth in the Colley Classic Saturday, going 1-2 on the weekend.

The Vikings opened the action by romping over Roman Catholic, 68-7. But they lost to host East in the semifinals, 37-31, and to Octorara in the third-place match, 38-23.

Brett Sacks went 3-0 wrestling both 113 and 120. Austin Rowley (152) and Jacob Sturm (182) also went 3-0 on the day. DELAWARE VALLEY >> Demond Thompson and Destyn Snyder scored silver medals to head Pottstown’s contingent in the Kurt Meister Invitation­al Saturday at Delaware Valley University.

Thompson and Snyder got seconds in the 138 and 285-pound brackets, respective­ly. Matthew Deppen (126) and Zachary Griffin (195) came away with fourths, and Emanuel Tamayo with a fifth at 145. WEST CHESTER EAST >> Pottsgrove went 2-1 at the Colley Classic, improving to 5-2 on the season. The Falcons rebounded from a 52-21 loss to Ridley with victories over Chichester (49-30) and Roman Catholic (48-33).

Pottsgrove’s biggest team effort was the match with RC. Trailing by nine points (33-24) with four bouts left, it strung together pins by Noah Frye, Zach Van Horn, Avery Shivak and Manny Allen to forge its winning run.

Stephen Hennelly (152), Van Horn (195) and Shivak (220) all went 3-0 in the Classic, with Frye (182), Tony Lindgren (106/113) and Josh Cerrito (138) each 2-1 on the day. OWEN J. ROBERTS 65, POTTSTOWN

3>> The Owen J. Roberts wrestling team dropped just one bout in a one-sided win over Pottstown, 65-3, Wednesday night in a Pioneer Athletic Conference cross-division matchup.

Ricky McCutchen (170), Richard Nathan (220), Jason Williams (113) and Matthew Englehardt (132) were bonus-point winners for the Wildcats, which also benefitted from seven Pottstown forfeits.

Demond Thompson allowed the Trojans to avoid the shutout with a 7-5 win at 138 pounds. In the tightest bout of the night, OJR’s Tommy Dempsey edged Zachary Griffin, 3-2, at 195 pounds.

POTTSGROVE 39, NORRISTOWN 34 >> Charles Sithens got his team’s late rally started, his major decision at 138 helping the Falcons pull out a victory over the Eagles in this PAC divisional crossover match.

Sithens’ decision preceded Josh Cerrito’s goahead pin at 145, and Shane Caffrey clinched the win with a pin at 152. Pottsgrove got earlier falls from Walter Pack (170), Avery Shivak (220) and Tony Lindgren (106). Chris Carter (182), Marvins Ravix (285) and Jacob Morales (120) all scored falls for Norristown.

Boys basketball

METHACTON 84, BOYERTOWN 53 >> The Warriors rode a big early lead to victory over the Bears in their PAC Liberty Division pairing.

Methacton jumped out to a 15-2 lead just three minutes into the contest, and never looked back the rest of the way. David Duda lead the hot-shooting Warriors with 28 points — 15 of them on 3-point baskets — while Erik Timko added 17 points and Jeff Woodward 14. The Bears had two players in double digits: Hunter Borgmann (13 points) and Tre Diguglielm­o (10). BOYERTOWN 48, OWEN J. ROBERTS 46 >> Aarick Salata had the fleet feet for the Boyertown boys basketball team Thursday night. Fleet enough to get the Bears a 48-46 victory over Owen J. Roberts.

Salata’s runner, with just under 10 seconds left, provided Boyertown its margin of victory and first win of the Pioneer Athletic Conference slate. The Bears’ offensive lead was shared by Hunter Borgmann and Tre Diguglielm­o, who each had 15 points while Chris Kiefer added 12 in the win.

Sa’Vaughn Davidheise­r and Jalen Lucas led the Wildcats (0-2) with 13 and 12 points, respective­ly. POPE JOHN PAUL II 75, POTTSGROVE 66 >> Drew McKeon and Sean Bustynowci­z connected for 16 points each, Chris White tossed in 15 and Justin Green added 14 as the Golden Panthers knocked the Falcons from the ranks of the unbeaten Friday night. in PAC Frontier action.

PJP shot a torrid 56 percent (27-48) from the floor, including 11-25 (44 percent) from beyond with Bustynowci­z hitting 4 of 5 and McKeon and White combining to go 5-for-11 from beyond. White also picked up five assists and five steals for the Golden Panthers, who used a 21-13 run in the third quarter to get some separation from a 33-33 halftime stalemate.

Khaliym Smith had a double-double for the Falcons with a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 10-for-14 from the floor and adding three assists and two steals to his impressive stat line. Also for the Grove, Justin Robinson scored 20 points. POTTSGROVE 51, UNIONVILLE 48>> Manny Clark nailed a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left to cap a 15-3 run in the final four minutes and lift the Falcons over the Indians in a non-conference matchup.

For the game, Clark finished with 18 points while Khaliym Smith added 13 and Justin Robinson had nine for Pottsgrove, which scored 23 points in the final frame. Unionville’s Connor Ash scored 17 points. PHOENIXVIL­LE 74, POTTSTOWN 55 >> Dylan Clark and K.J. Quinn combined for 45 points to lead the Phantoms past the Trojans in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division game.

Clark netted game scoring honors with 24 while Quinn added 21. Phoenixvil­le also got a 10-point outing from Steve Hamilton while Pottstown had a trio of double-figure scorers in Floyd Dashiell (14), Robert Burress (13) and Jsuan Jones (10).

BOYERTOWN 63, NORTH PENN 62 >> The Bears got a 21-point outing from Hunter Borgmann as they edged the Knights in nonleague play.

Borgmann, who also pulled down six rebounds, was joined in double-figure scoring by Tre Diguglielm­o (17 points), who had nine from 3-point range; and Aarick Salata (15), who helped put the game away in the fourth quarter by going 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. As a team, Boyertown went 11-for-11 from the line in the last quarter, highlighte­d by Diguglielm­o nailing a pair with just seconds left to put the locals up by four.

Girls basketball

METHACTON 50, BOYERTOWN 33 >> Abby Penjuke netted a game-high 14 points to lead the Warriors over the Bears in their PAC Liberty Division game.

Penjuke, who also pulled down eight rebounds, was joined in double-figure scoring by Sydney Hargrove (10). Sydney Tornetta headed Methacton off the glass with 11 boards, and Boyertown’s offense was led by Amber Marburger’s 10 counters. POTTSGROVE 48, POTTSTOWN 39 >> The Falcons controlled the first three quarters and came away with a PAC Frontier win over their neighborin­g rivals.

Riley Simon and Rachel Ludwig scored 11 points each as the Falcons led 22-8 at half and 40-18 after three quarters. Pottstown played hard to the wire and put up a 21-point fourth quarter while Emme Wolfel (13 points, three treys) and Trinell Watson (10 points) scored in double figures.

ANTIETAM 58, POTTSTOWN 41>> Paige Glovenski scored 17 points and Alayna Day and Katura McCorkle each had 14 as the Mountainee­rs (3-0) outscored the Trojans (0-4) by 20 in the second half to prevail.

Kiyah Cotton had 19 points to lead Pottstown. POTTSGROVE 54, BRANDYWINE HEIGHTS 34 >> Jaime Makins scored 17 points to lead the Falcons (3-2) over the Bullets in their nonleague game.

Jordan Mayes and Riley Simon chipped in with eight-point efforts for Pottsgrove, which opened a 15-3 lead on BH in the first quarter. Ashlyn Clark had 10 to lead Brandywine. OSBOURN PARK (VA.) 41, BOYERTOWN 36 >> The Bears were unable to dig out of a nine-point halftime deficit to their Virginia opponent at the She Got Game Classic in Washington, D.C.

Leading Boyertown were Ashley Kapp and Julia Smith with 11 and 10 points, respective­ly.

Boys swimming

BOYERTOWN 107, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 63 >> Owen Miller and Oliver Tye each won two individual races to lead the Bears in their PAC meet with the Vikings.

Miller took first in the 200 free (1:49.92) and 100 free (49.55), with Tye doing the same in the 200 IM (2:03.15) and 100 fly (54.72). Jacob Replogle had PV’s lone first in the 500 free (5:03.35).

BOYERTOWN 90, PHOENIXVIL­LE 80 >> Oliver Tye and Aaron Keifer each won pairs of individual events to lead the Bears in their PAC meet with the Phantoms.

Tye headed the 200 IM (2:20.12) and 100 fly (1:01.49), with Keifer doing the same in the 50 free (25.75) and 100 free (58.29). Jack Hussin was a two-race winner for Phoenixvil­le, taking the 200 free (2:02.67) and 500 free (4:28.21). METHACTON 115, POTTSGROVE 34 >> Tommy Gibbs won two individual races to help the Warriors sink the Falcons in their PAC meet.

Gibbs won the 200 free (1:52.70) and 100 fly (56.48) as one of seven Methacton winners to claim individual events. Nathan Jorgensen (100 back (1:30.08) and Jonah Korman (100 breast, 1:38.09) headed individual events for Pottsgrove, both also swimming legs of the Falcons’ winning 400 free relay (5:33.53).

Girls swimming

BOYERTOWN 109, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 61 >> Gabrielle McKee and Emily Drabick each won two individual races to lead the Bears in their PAC meet with the Vikings.

McKee took first in the 200 IM (2:12.82) and 500 free (5:16.84), with Drabick doing the same in the 50 free (26.17) and 100 breast (1:12.42). Emily Hinz was a two-race winner for PV, heading the 200 free (2:02.94) and 100 fly (1:03.25).

BOYERTOWN 88, PHOENIXVIL­LE 82 >> Grace McKee’s two-win showing helped the Bears get by the Phantoms in their PAC meet.

McKee won the 200 free (2:23.15) and 100 back (1:11.93) for Boyertown. Phoenixvil­le’s Erini Pappas led her team with firsts in the 200 IM (2:27.66) and 100 fly (1:04.98).
