DonutNV opens doors in Pottstown
Food truck enterprise opens first brickand-mortar location
POTTSTOWN >> Lovers of fresh, hot donuts can get their fill at DonutNV, which officially opened its doors on Monday, Dec. 10.
Located at the corner of South Hanover Street and Industrial Highway — DonutNV is located in the Hanover Square development.
“It has been going great, very steady since we opened,” said owner Alex Gingold during the shop’s grand opening and ribbon-cutting. “It has kind of come in waves: first it was the people that live in the townhomes in the community, then commuters, and now, families.”
Gingold’s partner in DonutNV is his wife Amanda Gingold.
The shop offers hot, mini donuts that are made to order with a variety of toppings that include Oreo, Fruity Pebbles, chocolate chocolate chip and s’mores.
“Our mini-donuts are cooked
as you watch. You place your order and choose your topping,” Gingold said, adding the most popular toppings are Oreos and cinnamon sugar.
In addition to the donuts, DonutNV serves coffee, lemonade, locally sourced bagels, milkshakes, ice cream coffee and teas.
The DonutNV shop is about 1,000 square feet, according to Gingold, has a small arcade and seating for about 20.
“We’re more than a donut shop. DonutNV is a place to hang out, grab a coffee and a donut on the way to work; a place to bring the family after work or come in on a Sunday morning,” he said, adding with the central location will attract, commuters, Montgomery County Community College students and residents of the Hanover Square townhomes.
While new to Pottstown, the Gingold’s business is not new. The couple launched their first mini-donut kiosk — under the name Cinnamini Donuts — in 2014, at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick. In 2015, they added their first mobile kiosk as demand grew for the custom made treats. They now operate three mobile units — catering parties, weddings, special and corporate events, according to Gingold.
This year, Cinnamini Donuts was rebranded as DonutNV.
Gingold said the couple was looking to escape their corporate jobs, and find something that “made them happy.”
After many “couch conversations” about starting their own business, the couple thought back to their teens and their first jobs working in the food industry.
“It was fun and interactive, we both enjoyed giving customers an experience to remember,” he said. “We came across used donut equipment, ran the numbers and opened at Philadelphia Premium Outlets. We have continued to grow since.”
So how did DonutNV decide to locate its first brick and mortar store in Pottstown? Gingold said they weren’t actually looking to open a store, but discovered the space at Hanover Square earlier this year.
“Pottstown is developing rapidly, and we saw an opportunity to bring a business that is fun, delicious, entertaining and interactive. There’s really nothing like it,” he said.
Gingold said the couple will continue to operate the mobile kiosks. They are also looking to actively market the brand as a franchise opportunity. DonutNV is located at 194 S. Hanover St. in Pottstown, and is open seven days a week.
