A Gilded Christmas: Pennypacker Mills will offer the A Gilded Christmas holiday tour through Sunday, Jan. 6. See period-style Christmas ornaments and decorations used throughout the mansion in addition to original 1900s ornaments and greeting cards on exhibit in the Galleries. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Tours are free, with a suggested donation of $2 per person. Woodstove Cooking Demonstration: Visit Pennypacker Mills Saturday, Jan. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to see traditional American foods cooked on a wood stove. Two cooks will simmer and bake foods that are reminiscent of those found in many homes in the early 1900s. This free cooking demonstration will be held in the Classroom Building, up the hill from the Pennypacker mansion, 5 Haldeman Road, Schwenksville. Women’s Cap Workshop: Pottsgrove Manor will offer a women’s cap workshop Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Workshop participants will create their own cap by using only hand-sewing skills to construct their new headgear. Historic interpreter Deborah Peterson will lead this workshop where participants will also hear a brief lecture on the fashion of caps. Participants will be able to try on several styles of caps before choosing the style that best suits them. If participants do not finish their cap at the end of the workshop, they will have the instructions, materials and know-how to complete the final steps at home. Space is limited. Materials fee is $45 per person. This workshop is for ages 10 and older. Some sewing experience is recommended, but all levels are welcome to register for this workshop. Registration information is available at montcopa.org/pottsgrovemanor, and registration forms with payment (cash, check or money order accepted) must be sent by Jan. 12. PMMC Offering Free Child Care Safety Check: Pottstown Memorial Medical Center is offering free car seat safety checks on the third Friday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Goodwill Ambulance Company, 714 E. High St., Pottstown. Child Certified Passenger Safety Technicians and trained volunteers will check child car seats for: recalls and damage; best fit for weight, height, and age; and will teach installation techniques. Celebrate Recovery: The newest ministry at Hopewell Community Church, 1130 Commerce Drive, Pottstown, will “Celebrate Recovery” through meetings every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Celebrate Recovery deals with Hurts, Hang Ups, and yes Habits. It is a twelve step program, unlike other programs we know who our “higher power” is, the one and only God and it is biblically based. We will honor Jesus and Praise Him. All of the studies will emphasize forgiveness and salvation. The “Eight Principles” are based on the Beatitudes for the purpose of leading all who attend on the path toward recovery.
