Berks Youth Cho­rus an­nounces PMEA District 10 Choral Read-Through

Berks Youth Cho­rus (BYC) is pleased to an­nounce that the cho­rus will host a Choral Readthrough of PMEA District 10 Cho­rus Fes­ti­val mu­sic, on Wed­nes­day, Jan. 9, 2019, at 7 p.m. at Muh­len­berg High School.

High school singers who have been selected to par­tic­i­pate in the District Cho­rus Fes­ti­val and their teach­ers are in­vited to at­tend. The event is free.

Christo­pher Hoster, di­rec­tor of MasterSingers, will lead the re­hearsal. In ad­di­tion to serv­ing as BYC di­rec­tor of MasterSingers, Mr. Hoster is founder and di­rec­tor of Opus One: Berks Cham­ber Choir; choir di­rec­tor and or­gan­ist at St. John Bap­tist de la Salle Church, Shilling­ton; and in­terim di­rec­tor of choral ac­tiv­i­ties at Al­bright Col­lege, Read­ing.

Last year, Mr. Hoster served as vis­it­ing as­sis­tant pro­fes­sor of mu­sic and di­rec­tor of choral ac­tiv­i­ties at Susque­hanna Uni­ver­sity, Selins­grove.

Mr. Hoster is a can­di­date for a doc­tor­ate in mu­si­cal arts in choral mu­sic from the Uni­ver­sity of Illi­nois (Cham­paign-Ur­bana, IL), where he earned a mas­ter of mu­sic de­gree in vo­cal per­for­mance and lit­er­a­ture. He earned a bach­e­lor of mu­sic ed­u­ca­tion de­gree, summa cum laude, from Susque­hanna Uni­ver­sity.

With its head­quar­ters and many re­hearsals lo­cated in Read­ing’s ge­o­graph­i­cally ac­ces­si­ble Gog­gleWorks, and through com­mu­nity en­gage­ment projects such as Sum­mer Sing, Berks Youth Cho­rus is ded­i­cated to mak­ing life-chang­ing mu­si­cal op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able to all chil­dren. BYC pro­vides a safe, nur­tur­ing en­vi­ron­ment where singers achieve, be­come en­gaged in a com­mu­nity of fel­low singers, and are nour­ished ar­tis­ti­cally, emo­tion­ally, and spir­i­tu­ally.

The con­cert sea­son is sup­ported by Penn­syl­va­nia Coun­cil on the Arts, a state agency, and Read­ing Mu­si­cal Foun­da­tion.
