Bodolus, Figueroa named to All-State team
Pottsgrove defensive end Ryan Bodolus and Pottstown safety Nehemiah Figueroa weren’t shy about making a tackle this fall.
On Thursday, the pair of Pioneer Athletic Conference seniors tackled spots on the Pennsylvania Football Writers’ All-State Team, both earning spots on the Class 4A defense.
A defensive line selection, the 6-1, 220-pound Bodolus had a Pennsylvania-best 18.0 sacks (according to MaxPreps) and 75 total tackles (32 for loss) for the District 1-4A and PIAA quarterfinalist Falcons.
A Mini Max award winner and the Pottstown Mercury All-Area Player of the Year, Bodolus had two sacks, two forced fumbles and a block extra point in Pottsgrove’s 14-13 district victory over Bishop Shanahan as part of 12-2 season.
The 5-10, 170-pound Figueroa earned a spot as a defensive back. The aggressive safety had eight interceptions, 88.5 tackles (three for loss), three pass deflections and one forced fumble for District 1-4A runner-up Pottstown. Offensively, he had 35 receptions for 338 yards and a touchdown as a wide receiver. A two-way All-Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division first team selection, Figueroa led Trojans’ turnaround 6-6 record after a two-win season two years prior.
