Arts, crafts, culinary arts workshops at Clay on Main
With the world getting more and more complex, many of us are longing for a simpler time when friends sat together and worked with their hands.
Clay on Main, in Oley, is a place where people can slow down, learn a new skill, and create things from scratch.
This winter, neighbors are invited to participate in the community arts center’s biweekly craft and food workshops. These twohour stand-alone classes are a great place for family and friends to reconnect, or to meet like-minded people.
The 2019 series kicks off with Felting Basics with Sandy, on Saturday, January 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. The following two workshops make a great pair — bread and cheese! On Saturday, January 26, from 10 a.m. to noon, learn to bake bread with Pam and Tom of the Oley Baker in Bread from Scratch. On Wednesday, February 6, from 5 to 7 p.m., get a lesson on the Art of Cheesemaking from Stefanie of Valley Milkhouse.
If you’re interested in diving into a vibrantly colored surface, consider taking Encaustic Painting, on Saturday, February 16 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lisa will lead students through this process, which involves working with pigments and hot beeswax. Lisa, who is also an environmental educator, will be back on Saturday, March 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help folks Make a Home for the Mason Bees. This workshop is both crafty and handson, and also has a direct environmental impact as we support our local pollinators by making them a cozy house.
All the workshops listed above are priced to support families attending together; the $50 fee for adults includes all materials, and school-aged children can come along for $18.
