Pottstown Area Children’s Foundation co-hosts drive-in movie at SunnyBrook

-

LOWER POTTSGROVE » The Pottstown Area Children’s Foundation and Little Smiles Philadelphia are co-hosting a drive-in movie night on Friday, March 26, at the SunnyBrook Ballroom.

They’ll be showing “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” a comedy/fantasy production based on a beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl. Tim Burton produced the movie, which stars Johnny Depp as the eccentric candymaker, Willie Wonka.

Although the Foundation focuses on children in need, the movie night is open to all. Tickets are free, but they are limited and must be reserved online, in advance, by going to www.theSunnyBrook.com and clicking on “Holidays and Special Events.”

SunnyBrook is located at 50 SunnyBrook Drive, Pottstown. The parking lot will open at 6 p.m., with the movie anticipated to begin at 7:30 p.m. A concession stand and rest rooms will be open. No outside food or beverages will be permitted.

Little Smiles is a nonprofit whose mission is to bring smiles to the faces of children in local hospitals, hospices and shelters. The Pottstown Area Children’s Foundation is best known for its annual children’s Christmas party, with presents for every child. In conjunction with the party, it hosts a holiday food giveaway. Last Christmas, even with the pandemic causing operations to be moved outside, the foundation served 621 children and 302 families.

“We’re excited about this,” said Foundation President Jim Frymoyer. “It broadens our horizon of being able to help children all over. Although our main focus so far has been the Christmas party and food giveaway, we hope to add more events for children in our community, and with the support of our community.”

In case of inclement weather, the movie night will be rescheduled.
