Lammers wins Citizen of Year
MINSTER — On Jan. 22, the Minster Civic Association held their annual Citizen of the Year Dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
At the dance, Sara Corona, the outgoing Civic Association president, gave a speech outlining the association’s accomplishments over the prior year and announced this year’s Citizen of the Year Mr. Bob Lammers.
Lammers, who was born and raised in Minster, has dedicated his life to serving the Minster community. After graduating from Minster High School, Lammers served for five years in the Air Force.
Returning to Minster, he became editor of the local newspaper, known as the Minster Post at the time. After 13 years, Lammers handed over the editorship of the newspaper and became the advertising manager at I.E. Industries in Minster, which later became Midmark.
His tenure at Midmark lasted 30 years, during which time he served in advertising, marketing and show management.
Lammers took a significant interest in the history of Minster, and published the book “Remembering… A Commemorative Look at Minster, OH 1832 – 1982”. He was also involved in the creation of both the original (founding to 1975) and more recent (1975 - 2016) videos covering Minster’s history.
A lay minister for St. Augustine Parish, Lammers is especially active in the parish bereavement ministry, Grief Share program, and co-managed the Why Catholic program with his wife. He is currently serving on the St. Augustine Cemetery Board.
Over the years, Lammers has been involved with Hospice of Darke County and is currently a volunteer with the Grand Lake Hospice program as well as a part time volunteer at St. Peter’s Neurological Center.
Lammers is a member of the K of C, American Legion, Eagles and Historical Society. He has volunteered for the Historical Society and given historical tours to grade school kids.
Please join the Civic Association in congratulating Lammers on winning this award and thank him for all that he has done for this community.
