Madonna M. Vehorn, 95

Madonna M. Vehorn, 95, of Botkins, died at 11:50 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at Otterbein-Cridersvil­le, surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1926, in Burkettsvi­lle, the daughter of the late Antone and Elizabeth (Borgerding) Miller. On Oct. 25, 1947, she married Herbert R. Vehorn, and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1998.

Survivors include five children: Tom (Kay) Vehorn of Wapakoneta, Fred (Jane) Vehorn of Botkins, Mary (Gary) Sweigart of Lima, Ed (Lyn) Vehorn of Reno, Nevada and Ernie (Teri) Vehorn of Botkins; 14 grandchild­ren and 28 great grandchild­ren; two sisters-in-law: Dottie Meiring of Minster and Mary Miller of Cincinnati; a brother-in-law, Sonny Meiring of Minster and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence “Larry” Vehorn and five brothers and five sisters.

Madonna worked in the cafeteria at Botkins Schools for over 15 years. She was also a poll worker with the Shelby County Board of Elections. She was a 75-year member and active volunteer of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins. She was also a member of the former Catholic Ladies Sodality, and numerous cards clubs. Madonna was a home maker who enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, baking dozens and dozens of cookies, sewing, and playing various card games. She was fondly known for her home made popsicles that were shared with family, grandkids and neighborho­od children.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 14, 2022, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, with Fr. Sean Wilson officiatin­g. Burial is to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday Feb. 13, and 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Monday at the Eley Funeral Home and Crematory, state Route 501, Wapakoneta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be directed to the Shelby County Right to Life, Box 72 Sidney, OH 45365 or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, PO Box 519, Botkins, OH 45306.
