Area swimmers compete at sectionals

LIMA — Area teams gathered for the first step of the swimming postseason on Saturday with sectional tournament­s at multiple sites.

Minster, New Bremen and Marion Local were all part of the competitio­n at the Lima YMCA, while Fort Loramie competed Trotwood.

NEW BREMEN

Annie Jiang won sectional titles in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.88 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.51.

Andy Jiang took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.25 seconds.

The girls 200 medley relay of Jiang, Caroline Whitlach, Gia Johnson and Katie Fleming was first to the wall with a time of 1:58.23

GIRLS Whitlach finished third in the 200 individual medley (2:29.26) and fourth in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:15.16).

In the 50 freestyle, Fleming was third (26.60), Johnson fourth (26.87) and Olivia Heitkamp sixth (27.34)

Heitkamp won a swim-off for fourth place in the 100 freestyle. She had a time of 1:02.13 in the race and 1:01.02 in the swim-off. Jenna Rismiller was 10th in that event (1:06.90).

Johnson finished seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:07.59), and Fleming was eighth (1:07.80).

Relay results:

200 freestyle (Heitkamp, Rismiller, Whitlach, Johnson), 5th (1:52.16).

400 freestyle (Heitkamp, Rismiller, Fleming, Jiang), 2nd (4:09.48).

BOYS

Owen Gabel took second place in the 50 freestyle (23.07) and also was second in the 100 free (51.01).

Gavin Spragg finished seventh in the 500 freestyle (6:40.58).

Jiang was the second place finisher in the 100 backstroke (57.79).

Relay results:

200 medley (Owen Gabel, Patrick Bernhold, Andy Jiang, Zach Ashman), 4th (1:50.58).

200 freestyle (Ashman, Bernhold, Gabel, Jiang), 2nd (1:35.87).

400 freestyle (WIll Hemmelgarn, Tanner This, Xavier Wyatt, Spragg), 6th (4:27.09).

MINSTER

Earning sectional titles for the Wildcats were Alex Albers in the 100 freestyle (50.47) and 200 freestyle (1:52.13) and Lucas Stammen in the 50 freestyle (22.37).

For the girls, Cameo Cedarleaf was first in the 100 freestyle (57.47).

In relays, the 400 freestyle combinatio­n of Albers, Russell Heid, Ryan Halpin and Stammen were first with a time of 3:38.71.

GIRLS

Cameo Cedarleaf was third in the 200 freestyle (2:07.55)

Chaney Cedarleaf placed third in the 100 freestyle (1:00.76) and ninth in the 50 freestyle (27.85).

Lexi Hanson was seventh in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:19)

BOYS

Ryan Halpin finished ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:25.46) and C.J. Gonzalez was 10th (2:38.99).

Heid finished ninth in the 100 butterfly (1:05.21).

In the 100 backstroke, Louis Magoto

was seventh (1:10.12); Gonzazlez eighth (1:10.93) and Nate Hanson 10th (1:12.70).

Stammen finished fourth in the 100 breaststro­ke (1:05.42) and Halpin was 10th (1:12.13).

Relay results:

200 medley (Nate Hanson, C.J. Gonzalez, Louis Magoto, Charlie Schmiesing), 7th (2:05.25).

200 freestyle (Albers, Heid, Halpin, Stammen), 3rd (1:36.27).

MARION LOCAL

For the Lady Flyers, Kylie Niekamp grabbed the sectional title in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.52.

She finished fourth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.14).

Lydia Kelch was eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:33.81).

Competing in the 50 free were Katie Mescher (23rd); Lilly Moles (38th); Josie Bruns (40th); and Emma Pleiman (42nd).

In the 100 free were Aliyah Arling (30th); Ellie Heitkamp (32nd); Lilly Moles (34th); and Emma Pleiman (40th).

Josie Bruns was 29th in the 100 backstroke.Lauren Meiring was 30th and Ellie Heitkamp was 33rd in the 100 breaststro­ke.

Relay results:

200 medley (Niekamp, Lauren Meiring, Lydia Kelch, Katie Mescher), 9th (2:19.89)

200 freestyle (Mescher, Meiring, Arling, Kelch), 10th (2:10.35).

400 freestyle (Moles, Heitkamp, Bruns, Arling), 9th (5:42.16).

BOYS

Kevin Partington finished sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:17.01).

Riley Bruns took sixth in the 50 freestyle (23.81) and Simon Partington was 10th (25.32). Also competing in that event were Hayden Poeppelman (29th); Max Speelman (44th).

In the 100 breaststro­ke, Kevin Partington (1:08.62) was ninth and Simon Partington (1:12.27) was 11th. Others in action were Luke Kunkler (18th) and John Kramer (21st).

In the 100 butterfly, Bruns finished eighth (1:04.21).

Swimming in the 100 free were John Kramer (20th); Luke Kunkler (26th); Hayden Poeppelman (27th); and Max Speelman (38th).

Relays:

200 medley (Kevin Partington, Simon Partington, Riley Bruns, Wyatt Greenwood), 5th (1:53.16).

200 freestyle (S. Partington, Greenwood, K. Partington, Bruns), 6th (1:39.95).

FORT LORAMIE

For the Redskins, Harley Eilerman took third in the 50 freestyle (26.43) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (58.00).
