Primary confusion continues for board of elections
WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Board of Elections approved the primary ballots Wednesday, knowing full well they will be changed as some district maps are still being litigated. Local officials are awaiting clarity on what exactly will be on the ballot as the Ohio Secretary of State has floated the idea of two primaries.
The preference locally would be one primary, even if delayed, due to costs and demands on poll workers.
Deadlines are so tight that the Ohio Senate just approved moving back the deadline for overseas military ballots, buying the Ohio Supreme Court and the Ohio Redistricting Commission a few more weeks at the drawing board.
At the moment, the 4th Congressional District will include all of Auglaize County.
The 84th and 78th Ohio House districts will split Auglaize County, if approved by the Ohio Supreme Court. The 78th was previously referred to as the 86th Ohio House District.
The divisions in Auglaize County will be along township lines.
Goshen, Wayne Union Duchouquet, Moulton, Logan and Salem townships are expected to be in the 78th House District.
Noble, Washington, German, and Jackson Township, Pusheta and Clay townships are expected to be in the 84th House District.
Both Wapakoneta and St. Marys will be included in the 84th House district as the maps are currently drawn.
The Ohio Supreme Court is expected to make a new determination on maps next week.
Board of Election members also approved training dates for poll workers in April as well as equipment delivery for the primary.
