Local athletes compete at OHSAA State Championships
COLUMBUS – Several local athletes turned in strong performance at the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Division 3 Minster’s Taylor Roth successfully defended her state title in the 800, winning in 2:11.72. Roth also anchored the Wildcat 4x800 team that
won the State Championship. The 4x800 team included Margaret Hemmelgarn, Annie Hemmelgarn, and Maria Niekamp to win in 9:19.85.
The Minster 4x400 of Keri Heckman, Cameo Cedarleaf, Ava Stammen, and Roth placed fourth in 4:01.99. The Wildcat 4x200 team of Keri Heckman, Kylie Williams, Anna Larger, and Cameo Cedarleaf placed fourth in 1:44.34.
Margaret Hemmelgarn was 11th in the 1600 in 5:17.38,
Maria Niekamp ninth in the 3200-meter run in 11:35.48, Chaney Cedarleaf 17th in the 3200 in 12:23.42. Cameo Cedarleaf was 16th in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.98, Kayla Lamm 14th in high jump at 5-0. Kylie Williams was 16th in the 100-meter dash in 12.59 and the Wildcat 4x100 team was 16th in 51.51. Overall, Minster finished third with 30 points.
For the Minster boys team, Jack Grieshop finished ninth in
1:57.10. The 4x800 relay team finished 15th in 8:17.82, and Will Frimel was 18th in shot put at 41-11.
The New Knoxville girls 4x400 relay team finished eleventh in 4:08.95. Addi Albers was eleventh in high jump at 5-0 for the Rangers. Jay Schroeder was 14th in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.08 for the New Knoxville boys.
The New Bremen girls 4x400 relay team placed 18th in 4:14.57. The Cardinal boys
4x800 relay team finished 11th in 8:14.69. Jack Grieshop finished ninth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.10. Will Frimel finished 19th in shot put at 41-11. St. Marys
A couple of St. Marys athletes capped off very successful season at the OHSAA State Championship. Syerra Greber finished eighth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.49. Maria Jutte finished 16th in the 800-meter run in 2:24.53.
