100 Years Ago Feb 1, 1924

Two Couples who have lived together for more than sixty years in Minster – All were born here and they were married during the same year by one priest – They are living on south Main St in Minster. The two couples are Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Kramer and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Feldman who count their friends by the hundreds.

High School Notes – Last Thursday the Basketball team met the New Knoxville High School Team, and put up a terrific battle. The game ended in a tie, and had to be played off twice, which resulted in a final score of 21 to 27. The game was probably lost through the absence of two of the regular players. – The seniors have chosen the class rings, and will likely receive them some time next week.

Mr. John Heitbrink has installed a Delco light plant which he purchased from Frank Bomholt and Sons from St. Rosa.

75 Years Ago Jan 28, 1949

Boy Scouts Plan Initial Activities in New Building – Structure will be open for inspection by public Sunday Feb 13. – The Boy Scout committee composed of Vance Fogt, C.J. Sherman, Clarence Huelsman, Louis Hoying, Robert Garmann, Ed Wilkins and Charles Bowerman, met there recently and drafted rules for use of the building.

Minster High Quintet Tops Lima St. John – Lima St. John’s High School basketeers lost to Minster in a close game played here 48 – 45. Both teams depended heavily on their high-scoring stars, Tom Frericks of Minster and Tom Riepenhoff of Lima.

The Minster-Knoxville high school basketball game, originally scheduled to be played here Friday Feb 11, will be moved to the Coldwater high school gym which has a seating capacity of 1,300. The date will be changed to Saturday night. Adult admission will be 50 cents.

50 Years Ago Jan 31, 1974

Army Private First Class John Luthman, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Luthman, E

Fourth Street, Minster, completes eight weeks of training as a field artillery crewman with Battery A, First Battalion of the 84th Field Artillery at Ft. Lewis, Wash., under the Army’s unit of choice enlistment program.

Marc Alan , son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Larger, was baptized in St. Augustine Church by Rev. Leonard Fullenkamp, great uncle of the child.

Wildcats Win Over Rangers, 80 – 63 – Bob Bixler’s Wildcats went on a rampage and proved they were entitled to at least a share, if not all of he Auglaize County League crown. Cork Poeppelman, usually a starter for Minster, was not on the floor at tip off time.

Minster Wrestling Squad Gives Premiere Performanc­e – Minster Locals wrestling squad gave its premier performanc­e last Thursday evening. The evening began with a short review of methods of scoring individual points and team points, followed by demonstrat­ion of some typical holds by Coach Conover, Steve Kemper, Joe Botkins, Jeff Ahrns, Scott Otting, Andy

Slonkosky and Dennis Schmiesing.

Mass and Open House to Honor Rev. Carl Will on Silver Jubilee – Father Carl Will, pastor of Holy Redeemer Church, New Bremen will celebrate his Silver Jubilee – 25 years as an ordained priest- on Feb. 2nd.

Clarence Boerger and John Smith receive awards from Mayor Ted Purpus. Inscribed on the awards were “In recognitio­n to and for devoted service to the village of Minster as councilmen. The two represent approximat­ely 25 years of service.
