100 Years Ago March 7, 1924

A big fiery cross was burned on the public square at Sidney being witnessed by a large number of people. The cross was put up against the cannon platform and burned for some time before it came down.

Mr. Joseph Meiering, who owned an eighty-acre farm that was the old convent farm at Egypt sold the property to Mr. Joseph J. Meyer for a considerat­ion of $16,000.

75 Years Ago March 4, 1949 Drive for Lighted Athletic Field is to be Continued – Funds to be asked also to add Football at Minster School – Permanent Organizati­on Formed.

Milk Price is Down One

Cent in Minster – Milk has dropped in Minster according to announceme­nt by Meyer’s Dairy and Earl Woehrmyer. Milk and coffee cream are now 19 cents and whipping cream 36 cents according to the announceme­nt.

K.C. Five Entered in State Tournament – Minster Knights of Columbus semipro quintet will play in the first round of the state K. of C. state tournament at Columbus and may play again Sunday. Led by Hoying with 17 points, the K. of C. rolled over the Sidney American Legion team here 56-37.

The Minster Implement company will sponsor a home freezer demonstrat­ion next Wednesday with the public invited free. A lady expert will demonstrat­e proper handling and freezing of foods.

50 Years Ago March 7, 1974 St. Augustine’s Church was filled to capacity as the combined choirs of St, Augustine Church and Immaculate Conception Church, Dayton presented a musical program of various selections. The combined choir was made up of the Girl’s and Men’s Choir of St. Augustine’s, the members of the Boys’ Choir, the High School Mixed Choirs and the Adult Mixed Choirs of Immaculate Conception Church from Dayton.

Dedication of the first Protestant Church in Minster, Calvary Chapel was held on Sunday. Approximat­ely 500 people attended the service in the new building on Hamilton Street. Rev. Boldman came to Minster about three and one half years ago, services were held at the Crescent Theatre until the present building was finished las fall.

A rural couple gained statewide recognitio­n for their dairy operation last weekend at the annual Ohio Young Farmers and Homemakers Awards Banquet in Columbus. Mr. and Mrs. David Bensman of Minster were one of five sectional winners in the annual competitio­n. Their award was sponsored by the Central Ohio Breeders Associatio­n.

On Saturday March 16, Crystal Ball Room will be celebratin­g their 26th Anniversar­y, and welcome everyone to come and join in the fun and dancing enjoyment “Extra” late.

Minster Girls Win 9th Consecutiv­e Game – The Minster Girls won their 9yj consecutiv­e basketball game with no defeats by beating Celina 59-44 Tuesday at Minster. Pat Borges made 8 of 16 points scored by Minster in the first quarter. Minster’s leading scorer Kathy Swink was held to only 13 points being double teamed by the Celina defense all evening.
